Is earning through the Internet Halaal?
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa
Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be
upon all of you)
One of our
brothers/sisters has asked this question:
Is earning money from the internet
(like i am at www.cool2ndincome.co.uk
) a halaal way of doing things? or would the money earned be unlawful to use for things like
charity and giving to the mosque etc.?
(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)
Answer:
Is earning through the Internet Halaal?
In the name of Allah, We praise
Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can
misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We
bear witness that there is no one (no idol,
no person, no grave, no
prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone,
and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of
His Messengers.
It does not matter what or where
one earns his income, provided the work or service he offers is in its
foundation and essence halaal for the believers. There is absolutely no harm earning one’s
income from the internet, provided that the service or goods you offer on your
web-site is halaal in its foundation.
For example, if you are selling books, or clothes,
or electronics, etc. through the internet,
there is absolutely no harm; as
the selling of these products are halaal in its
foundation.
But if one is providing sexual
content, or
interest based banking services, or
wine, etc. through the internet, then
that income will definitely be haraam for the
believers; as these products or services
are in its foundation forbidden to the believers.
Thus, the thing that will determine whether
the income is halaal or haraam, is what kind of products or services one
offers through the internet; not the
internet itself.
Whatever written of Truth and
benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error
is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He
is the Only Source of Strength.
Your Brother in Islam,
Burhan
