Perfuming oneself with cologne after doing wudoo’

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
As-Salaamu-Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
There has been a great deal of dispute concerning perfuming oneself with cologne. Is it prescribed for the Muslim who has wudoo’ to renew it after using cologne, or to wash off any cologne that has got onto his body?
(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

The perfume which is known as cologne is not free from the substance which is known as alcohol and in an intoxicant, according to medical opinion, so we should not use it, and instead we should use perfumes that are free of that. As for doing wudoo’ after using it, it is not obligatory and there is no need to wash off any of it that gets onto the body, because there is no clear evidence to indicate that it is naajis (impure). And Allaah is the Source of strength.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah's Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
