Ruling on the raaqi throttling the person who is sick and possessed

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
As-Salaamu-Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
Is it permissible for the one who is treating the sick person by reciting Qur’aan [the raaqi] to beat or throttle him and talk to the jinn?.
(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

Something like this was done by earlier scholars such as Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him). He used to address the jinni and throttle and beat him until he departed. But going to extremes in such matters as we hear about from some reciters is something that is not appropriate. End quote.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah's Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
