Qasr prayers UAE

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

ASSALAM-O-ALAIKUM.

Brother, please read the main point of our question do not send already answered copies, i need answer to my point.

My question to you is joining of salah during travel. as it happened with my friends in U.A.E, they are residing in dubai, they had been to abudhabi which is 160kms from Dubai. The travelling time between two cities is just below 2 hours.

My question is if we are in abu dhabi during zuhr and we pray zuhr as qasr,

1) Can we join our Asr with our Zuhr. even though we might reach our destination well before Asr Time.

2) If we join our Asr with Zuhr, we reached our destination before Asr and we hear Asr Azaan, should we join jamah of asr or not.

Qasr prayers UAE

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisa verse 101: When you go on a journey, there is no harm, if you shorten your salaat,  (especially) when you fear that the disbelievers might harass you, for the disbelievers are openly bent upon enmity against you.

The Quran does not mention a specific distance for praying the ‘qasr’ or shortened prayer. This allowance of praying the shortened prayer is a mercy and a concession from the Merciful Lord for the travelers, because when one is traveling, he is in a foreign land and away from his routine.   The scholars of Islam have determined the distances of travel from the traditions of the Messenger of Allah (saws) and how he implemented the Quranic aayah regarding shortened prayer.

The majority of the scholars are of the opinion that it is permissible to shorten one’s salaah when one leaves one’s residence and is outside one’s city.   Some of the scholars are also of the opinion that the minimum distance must be 89 kilometers, and the evidence they give is that some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (saws) used to pray shortened prayers if the distance they were travelling was the distance of a camel travel for 3-days and 3-nights, and that has been calculated to about 89 kilometers.

Brother if you have travelled 160 kms then you are entitled to perform qasr prayers and join the dhuhr/asr and maghrib/isha prayers.

In your particular case if you perform the Dhuhr prayers in Abu Dhabi, you are eligible to say qasr. If you feel you can reach Dubai before Asr then you should not join the asr with dhuhr in Abu Dhabi and perform your asr full in Dubai.

However, if you are not sure of reaching Dubai before asr, you can join the dhuhr/asr and say both qasr in Abu Dhabi, and then in case you reach Dubai before asr and you hear the asr adhan you need not re-pray asr in Dubai.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,
