One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalamualikum,

Dear Brother Burhan,

Allah Will Give You "Jazaye Khair" ,

I m Continuously Getting Mail from Question Answer Section.

I want Description Of Below Hadeeth,

"Jarir b. Abdullah (Radi Allah Anhu) reported that some desert Arabs clad in woolen clothes came to Allah's Messenger (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam). He (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) saw them in sad plight as they had been hard pressed by need. He (the Holy Prophet sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) exhorted people to give charity, but they showed some reluctance until (signs) of anger could be seen on his face. Then a person from the Ansar came with a purse containing silver. Then came another person and then other persons followed them in succession until signs of happiness could be seen on his (sacred) face.

Thereupon Allah's Messenger (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said: "He who introduced some good practice in Islam which was followed after him (by people) he would be assured of reward like one who followed it, without their rewards being diminished in any respect. And he who introduced some evil practice in Islam which had been followed subsequently (by others), he would be required to bear the burden like that of one who followed this (evil practice) without their's being diminished in any respect."

[Sahih Muslim: Book 34 "Kitab Al-`Ilm" , Number 6466]

Answer:

Follow introduce good practice

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 3 (part):

This day have I perfected your religion for you completed My favor upon you and have chosen for you Islam as your ‘deen’ (or way of life).

Without an iota of a doubt brother, the ‘deen’ of Islam was absolutely completed and perfected with the death of the Last and Final Messenger of Allah (saws). Every rite, and ritual, and celebration, and commemoration….every act of worship, every law of Shariah regarding marriage, or divorce, or inheritance, or ‘qisas’ , or ‘zina’, or theft, etc. were revealed and explained before the death of the Messenger of Allah (saws). The deen of Islam was completed and perfected with the death of the Messenger of Allah (saws), and there can be absolutely no addition, or subtraction, or alteration in any of the Commands and Guidance of Allah and His Messenger (saws).

In fact, if any one adds, or subtracts, or alters any of the rites or rituals or acts of worship, or any Law in Shariah which is not endorsed by Allah and His Messenger (saws)……that innovation will and should be rejected by the believers; for every single innovation in the pure and perfect deen of Islam is but an error and a grave sin in the Sight of the Lord Most Gracious.

Aisha (r.a.) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘If somebody innovates something which is not present in our religion, then that thing will be rejected.’

Sahih Muslim Hadith 1885 Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah

That the Prophet of Allah (saws) said in a sermon: “The best speech is that which is embodied in the Book of Allah, the Al Quran; and the best guidance is the guidance given by me, Mohamed (saws). The most evil affairs are the innovations (bida), and every innovation (bida) is an error.”

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4515 Narrated by Ali ibn AbuTalib

That the Prophet of Allah (saws) said: “If anyone introduces an innovation (bida in religion), he will be responsible for it. If anyone introduces an innovation (bida) or gives shelter to a man who introduces an innovation (bida), he is cursed by Allah, by His Angels, and by all the people!”

The statement of the Messenger of Allah (saws): "…….He who introduced some good practice in Islam which was followed after him (by people) he would be assured of reward like one who followed it, without their rewards being diminished in any respect…..” is neither a license nor a permission to start innovations in the deen of Islam; but rather it merely states that one who introduces a deed which has already been endorsed as good and lawful by Allah and His Messenger (saws) will have his due and full reward, and also the reward of those who follow him in doing that good, without their rewards being diminished in any respect.

For example building a masjid, or an Islamic learning centre, or a charitable hospital, or an orphanage, or feeding the indigent, etc. are all considered meritorious deeds in Islam.

If one builds a masjid, or a charitable hospital, or an orphanage, or an Islamic learning center where there is none……and other believers are inspired by the act of this person and they too build the same….the person who introduced that good deed in the society will have his due and full reward with his Lord; and because his deed inspired others to do the same, he will also have a reward in the good done by them, without their rewards being diminished in the least.

A live example will make this point even clearer:

In the 1960’s a brother from Durban, South Africa, Shaikh Ahmed Deedat (may Allah have Mercy on his soul and accept his efforts) started to respond to the challenges of the disbelievers upon Islam and defend the deen in his debates and seminars with the best of the pagan ‘scholars’…….then in the 1980’s a brother from Mumbai, India, by the name of Dr. Zakir Naik, inspired by the efforts of Shaikh Ahmed Deedat followed in his footsteps, and he too took similar steps to defend the deen of Allah from the challenges of the disbelievers.

In light of the above quoted hadith of the Messenger of Allah (saws), it would be safe to assume that Brother Shaikh Ahmed Deedat will have the rewards of his own good deeds in the Presence of his Lord, and also the reward of the good work done by those who were inspired by him (like Brother Dr. Zakir Naik), without any diminish in their own rewards.

Today Brother Dr. Zakir Naik has established his own satellite TV channel called ‘Peace TV’ to propagate the Truth of Islam; if other believers are inspired by him and start such good channels which invite or teach people the Truth of Islam in other nations and languages…..it would be safe to assume that Brother Dr. Zakir Naik will have the reward of his own good in the Presence of his Lord, and also the reward of the good done by those inspired by him, without any diminish whatsoever in their own rewards.

“………And he who introduced some evil practice in Islam which had been followed subsequently (by others), he would be required to bear the burden like that of one who followed this (evil practice) without their's being diminished in any respect."

Prostitution, pornography, gambling, alcohol, etc. are prescribed as evils and declared absolutely unlawful and prohibited by Allah and His Messenger (saws). If an evil-doer sees an ‘opportunity’ and establishes a prostitution, or a gambling, or an alcohol den in a place, and seeing its ‘success’, another evil-doer is inspired to do the same…..the one who introduced the evil will bear the burden of his own evil, and also the burden of the sin of the one who was inspired by him to do the same evil, without there being any diminish in the burden of the sin of the one who followed him!

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
