Answer:
Was tajweed present
in time of prophet(saws) companions
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His
help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide,
and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear
witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His
Messengers.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 73 Surah
Muzzammil verse 4 (part):
4 ….. and recite the Qur'an in slow
measured rhythmic tones.
Abu Dawood relates on the authority of Hadrat
Saad ibn Abu Waqqas (r.a.) that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said ‘He who does
not chant the Quran is not one of us’ and the Prophet (saws) also said: "Beautify your voices with the Quran”; and "The one
with the best voice with the Quran is the one that when you hear him, you feel
that he fears Allah"; and "Allah Subhanah never listened to anything
like He listened to his Prophet chanting the Quran with a beautiful voice."
Respected brother in Islam, although the Lord Most Exalted
had Guided and Commanded the Prophet (saws) and the believers to recite His
Glorious Quran in slow measured rhythmic tones, and time and time again the
Messenger of Allah (saws) had guided the believers to chant the Glorious Quran
in as beautiful a manner and voice as they possibly could………the ‘ilm’ or the
laws of the science of ‘tajweed’ as we know them today were not present during
the times of the Prophet (saws) or the companions. Although it cannot be verified, some records
state that the laws and the science of ‘tajweed’ were formulated almost 200
years after the Hirah; and Allah Alone Knows Best.
Because the Glorious Quran was revealed in the dialect and
the language of the Arabs, the Prophet (saws) and his noble companions were
obviously well aware of the nuances of the Arabic language and there was
absolutely no issue amongst them regarding the exact pronunciation and the
‘makhraj’ (exit) of the specific sound of each and every alphabet of their language.
It was only later when the Truth of
Islam spread to nations of foreign languages that the need arose to create the
science and the laws of ‘tajweed’ so that the absolute best ‘makhraj’ and
pronunciation of the recitation of the text were preserved.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only
due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me
alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is
the Only Source of Strength.
Your brother and
well wisher in Islam,
Burhan
