Does madhi break fast

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf verse 33:

33 Say: The things that my Lord hath indeed forbidden are: ‘fahisha’ (shameful or indecent deeds) whether open or secret; sins and trespasses against truth or reason; assigning of partners to Allah for which he hath given no authority; and saying things about Allah of which ye have no knowledge.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verse 151:

151 Say: "Come I will rehearse what Allah hath (really) prohibited you from": join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents: kill not your children on a plea of want; We provide sustenance for you and for them; come not (even) nigh to ‘fahisha’ (shameful or indecent deeds) whether open or secret; take not life which Allah hath made sacred except by way of justice and law: thus doth He command you that ye may learn wisdom.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 24 Surah Noor verse 30:

30 (O Prophet (saws)) Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.

Respected brother in Islam, to watch something of the ‘fahisha’ (indecent or shameful things) is absolutely forbidden for the believers who sincerely fear Allah and the Last Day at all times, leave alone during the blessed and invaluable month of Ramadan.

If Allah forbid, one happened to watch something of the ‘fahisha’ to the extent that their private part released some liquid, then one needs to determine what type of liquid was released to determine the validity of their fast.

Other than urine, there are basically three types of discharges that are released from one’s private organs:

  1. Wadi (a thick white secretion immediately after uniration by some people)
  2. Madhi (a sort of slow release of lubricant just prior to a full sexual discharge)
  3. Mani (a full sexual discharge)

If only Wadi or Madhi is released, it does not nullify or break one’s state of fast, nor does one require a ‘ghusl’ or full bath to purify himself; he must wash his private parts and the part of his clothes or body where the ‘wadi’ or ‘madhi’ might have touched and continue his fast until sunset.

But if by watching or thinking of something of the ‘fahisha’, ‘Mani’ or a full sexual discharge is released, the fast would indeed be broken, null and void; and the person would have to atone for his missed fast by fasting at a later date.

There are five things which will break or invalidate the fast:

  1. Voluntary eating
  2. Voluntary drinking
  3. Sexual intercourse
  4. Voluntary full-semen discharge
  5. the menstruation of the woman while fasting

Respected brother, from your notes it would be safe to assume that what was released from your private parts was ‘madhi’ (initial lubricant) and not ‘mani’ (full sexual discharge)….thus your fast of that day would be considered valid and you would not need to keep another fast in its stead.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
