What is a `hoor"?

Answer:

What is Hoor?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The literal meaning of ‘hoor’ in the Arabic language is a woman who is absolutely gorgeous and beautiful, or one who is extremely fair-complexioned.

The connotation of the term ‘hoor’ in the Holy Quran and Sunnah is for the beautiful and pure wives that Allah Subhanah has promised to marry to the fortunate dwellers in Paradise.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 44 Surah Dukhaan verses 51-54:

51 As to the Righteous (they will be) in a position of Security

52 Among Gardens and Springs;

53 Dressed in fine silk and in rich brocade they will face each other;

So; and We shall wed them to ‘Hoor in-ayn’ (Companions with beautiful big and lustrous eyes).
