Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His
help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide,
and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear
witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His
Messengers.
May Allah Subhanah reward you with the best of
this world and the Hereafter for your kind comments of encouragement for our
humble efforts in the propagation of the Truth.
If our humble and modest efforts have helped even one brother or sister
get closer to Allah and His Deen of Truth, then we would consider ourselves
indeed fortunate to have been given this opportunity by the Lord Most Merciful
to serve in His Cause. We hope, beg, and
pray the Merciful Lord accepts our humble and weak efforts, forgives us our
shortcomings, and saves you, us, and all the believers from the torment of the
Hell Fire. Ameen.
Your
Question: During pregnancy is it permissible in Islam to have sexual
intercourse? If yes then upto which month
The only times it is impermissible and unlawful in Shariah
for a married couple to enjoy conjugation is:
- During
the wife’s menstruation periods.
- Menstruation
period after child-birth.
- When
one is fasting in Ramadan (or any other month).
- When
one is in the state of ‘eteqaaf’ during the last 10 days of Ramadan.
- When
in the state of ‘ehram’ during the pilgrimage to the Sacred House.
There is absolutely no restriction or limitation in
Shariah for a married couple if they wish to enjoy sexual relationship with
each other during the full pregnancy period of the wife, even until the very
moment before the baby is delivered, for immediately after the birth, the wife
will be considered in the state of post-child birth menstruation.
The exact same conditions that apply for enjoying sexual
relations with one’s wife which were applicable when the wife was not pregnant
would also apply when the wife is pregnant.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah
Baqarah verse 223:
223 Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so
approach your tilth when or how ye will.
Abu Dhar al-Ghafari reported: ‘The Messenger
of Allah (saws) said: “there is a reward for you [even] in sex with your
wife."’ The companions asked: ‘O Messenger of Allah (saws) is there a
reward if one satisfies his passion?" He (saws) said: "Do you know
that if he satisfies it unlawfully he has taken a sin upon himself? Likewise, if he satisfies it lawfully, he is
rewarded."
Related by Ahmad and Muslim.
Islam has allowed the husband and the wife in marriage
every possible liberty to enjoy conjugal relations with each other, except
three:
- It
is strictly prohibited to have sexual intercourse with one’s wife during
her period of menstruation.
- It
is strictly prohibited to enter the woman through her anus.
- Although
there is no specific prohibition mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah, the
majority of the scholars in Islam have voiced their opinion against ‘oral’
sex, whereby one touches the other’s private organs with their mouth.
Other than the above three restrictions, one may enjoy
conjugal relations with one’s wife any place, any time, and any how their
heart’s desire.
Your Question:
…..and is there any side effects to the mother as well as the baby?
To the best of our knowledge modern science or medicine
has not proved or even voiced their opinion that sexual intercourse with one’s
pregnant wife has any adverse side effects on the mother or the unborn
child. Because the health condition of
each pregnant woman varies, if one at all fears for the health or safety of the
mother or the unborn child if one were to enjoy sexual intercourse with one’s
wife during her period of pregnancy, it would be best to consult and seek the
advice of an expert in the field and science of medicine and gynecology.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only
due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me
alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is
the Only Source of Strength.

well wisher in Islam,
