The references from the Holy Quran in which Allaah Ta`la orders us to worship Him alone and importance of salath (namaz).
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa
Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
Assalamualaikum
Brother Burhan,
In the
name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness.
Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray,
none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no
person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but
Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(Sallalaahu Alai Wassallam) is
His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Please
help me in farwarding:
1.The
references from Holy Quran in which Allaah Ta`la prohibits drinking of Alcohol
and Zina. And also authentis Hadeeth of Prophet Mohammed (Sallalaahu Alai
Wassallam).
2.The
references from the Holy Quran in which Allaah Ta`la orders us to worship Him
alone and importance of salath (namaz). And also authentic Hadeeth of Prophet
Mohammed (Sallalaahu Alai Wassallam) stating the importance of salath (namaz).

Verses and hadiths on alcohol and prayer

Dear and beloved brother in Islam, there are so many
references from the Quran and the Sunnah regarding the topics you have
enquired, that it would be almost impossible for us to list all them in this
short article! What we can do for you
here is list only a few references for each topic for your reference.
Your Question: The
references from Holy Quran in which Allaah Ta`la prohibits drinking of Alcohol
and Zina. And also authentis Hadeeth of Prophet Mohammed (Sallalaahu Alai
Wassallam).
Ref: Alcohol (khamr or intoxicants)
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah
Maidah verses 90-91:
O you who have believed! ‘Khamr’ (all types of intoxicants), games of chance, idols,
and divining arrows are all abominable works of Shaitaan; therefore,
stay (far) away from these so that you may attain success. Indeed,
Shaitaan seeks to sow enmity and hatred among you by means of ‘khamr’
(intoxicants) and gambling, and to
prevent you from the Remembrance of Allah and from Salaah. Will you not, then,
abstain from these things?
Allah Subhanah in the above aayah clearly declares that
‘khamr’ or all types of intoxicants are the abominable works of Shaitaan, and commands the believers to stay far away
from them! The term used by Allah in
the Quran to guide the believers to stay away is ‘fajj-tanebu’, commanding the believers that this ‘khamr’ is
so hated by Allah for the believers,
that they not only should abstain from consuming it, they should stay far away from it! Some scholars have opined that the term
‘fajj-tanebu’ is stronger than the term ‘haraam’, and a believer who sincerely fears Allah and
the Last Day, must not even put himself
in a position that he sits with those who consume intoxicants!
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 3672 Narrated by Abdullah Ibn Abbas
The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: “Every
intoxicant is khamr (alcohol, wine,
etc.), and every intoxicant is haraam.”
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 3679 Narrated by Aisha
I heard the Messenger of Allah (saws)
say: “Every intoxicant is haraam; if a quantity of anything causes
intoxication, a handful of it is (also)
haraam.”
Sahih Muslim Hadith 4962 Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah
Allah's Messenger (saws) said: “Every intoxicant is haraam! Verily Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, made
a covenant to those who drank intoxicants to make them drink ‘Tinat al-Khabal’. The companions asked: “Allah's
Messenger, what is Tinat al-Khabal?’ He (saws)
said: “It is the sweat of the
denizens of Hell, or the discharge of
the denizens of Hell.”
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 3653 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr
The Prophet (saws) said, "An undutiful
son, a gambler, one who casts up what he has given, and one who is addicted to
wine will not enter
Ref: Zina (fornication and adultery)
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah
Israa verse 32:
Do not even go near ‘zina’ (fornication or
adultery) for it is a very indecent thing and a very evil way!
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah
Aaraaf verse 33:
33 Say (O Prophet (saws)): ‘The things that my Lord hath indeed
(absolutely) forbidden (declared ‘haraam’) are: shameful deeds whether
open or secret; sins and trespasses against truth or reason; assigning
of partners to Allah for which he hath given no authority; and saying things
about Allah of which ye have no knowledge.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah
Baqarah verse 268:
268 The Shaytaan threatens you with poverty and bids
you to conduct ‘fahisha’ (indecency).
Allah promiseth you His Forgiveness and Bounties, and Allah Careth for
all and He Knoweth all things.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 24 Surah
Noor verse 21:
O ye who
believe! Follow not Shaytaan's
footsteps: if any will follow the footsteps of Shaytaan, he will (but)
command what is ‘fahisha’ (shameful and indecent): and were it not for
the Grace and Mercy of Allah on you, not one of you would ever have been pure:
but Allah doth purify whom He pleases: and Allah is One Who hears and knows
(all things).
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah
Aaraaf verses 27-28:
27 O ye children of Adam! Let
not the Shaytaan seduce you in the same manner as he got your parents (Adam and
Hawwa) out of the Garden stripping them of their raiment to expose their shame:
for he and his tribe watch you from a position where ye cannot see them: We
made the Shaytaans the friends (only) to those without faith.
28 When they do aught that is shameful they say: "We found our
fathers doing so"; and "Allah commanded us thus": say: "Nay
Allah never commands what is ‘fahisha’ (shameful or indecent): do ye
say of Allah what ye know not?"
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah
Anaam verse 151:
151 Say: "Come I will rehearse what Allah hath (really) prohibited
you from": join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents:
kill not your children on a plea of want;
We provide sustenance for you and for them; come not nigh to ‘fahisha’ (shameful or
indecent deeds) whether open or secret; take not life which Allah hath
made sacred except by way of justice and law: thus doth He command you that ye
may learn wisdom.
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4886 Narrated by Anas ibn Malik
That he heard the Messenger of Allah (saws)
say: ‘The eye commits ‘zina’, and the palm of the hand, the foot, the body, the
tongue and private part of the body confirm it or deny it.’
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.260 Narrated by Ibn Abbas
I have not seen a thing resembling 'lamam'
(minor sins) than what Abu Huraira narrated from the Prophet (saws) who said
"Allah has written for the children of Adan their share of adultery which
he commits inevitably. The adultery of the eyes is the sight (to gaze at a
forbidden thing), the adultery of the tongue is the talk, and the inner self
wishes and desires and the private parts testify all this or deny it."
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 24 Surah
Noor verse 2:
2 The woman and the man guilty of ‘zina’ (fornication) flog each of
them with a hundred stripes: let not compassion move you in their
case in a matter prescribed by Allah if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day:
and let a party of the believers witness their punishment.
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.810 Narrated by Jabir
A man from the tribe of Aslam came to the
Prophet (saws) and confessed that he had committed adultery (illegal sexual
intercourse). The Prophet (saws) turned his face away from him till the man
bore witness against himself four times. The Prophet (saws) said to him,
"Are you mad?" He said "No." The Prophet (saws) asked, "Are you
married?" He said, "Yes."
Then the Prophet (saws) ordered that he be stoned to death, and he
was stoned to death at the Musalla (public gathering place).
Your Question: The
references from the Holy Quran in which Allaah Ta`la orders us to worship Him
alone and importance of salath (namaz). And also authentic Hadeeth of Prophet
Mohammed (Sallalaahu Alai Wassallam) stating the importance of salath (namaz).
Beloved brother, to worship Allah Subhanah Alone or the
concept of ‘tawheed’ (Absolute Oneness and Worship of the Lord Creator Alone)
and the refutation of ‘shirk’ or associating other ‘gods’ with Allah is the
absolute central theme of the Glorious Quran!
There is not a paragraph or a page in the Glorious Quran which does not
touch this central subject….and no matter how many references we provide you
here on this topic, it would never be enough!
Ref: (few) references from Quran to worship Allah
Subhanah Alone.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah Zumur verse 2-3:
So worship Allah Alone, making your religion His exclusively. Beware!
Religion is the exclusive Right of Allah. As for those who have taken other ‘auliyas’
with Allah (and justify their this conduct by saying): “We serve them only that
they may bring us closer to Allah.”
Allah will surely judge between them concerning all that in which they
differ. Allah does not show guidance to
any liar and denier of the Truth.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Surah
Ahzaab verse 72-73:
We (Allah) offered this trust to the heavens and
the earth and the mountains, but they
all refused to bear it, and were afraid
of it. But man undertook to bear this
trust. Indeed, he is unjust and ignorant! The inevitable result of bearing the burden
of the trust is that Allah should punish the hypocrite men and women, and the mushrik (one who invokes others with
Allah) men and women, and accept the repentance
of the believing men and women. Allah
is indeed Forgiving and Merciful.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 46 Surah
Ahqaf verses 4-6:
O Prophet, say to them, "Have you ever seen
them with open eyes those whom you invoke instead of Allah? Show me what they
have created in the earth? Or have they any share in the creation and control
of the heavens? Bring me a Book revealed before this, or produce some remnant
of knowledge in support of your beliefs if you are truthful." And who
could be further astray than the one who invokes, instead of Allah, those who
cannot answer him till the Day of Resurrection. Nay, they are even UNAWARE THAT
THEY ARE BEING INVOKED. And when all mankind shall be gathered together (on the
Day of Qiyamah), they (the so called leaders and intercessors) will become
enemies of those who invoked them and they will DISOWN THEIR WORSHIP!!!
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah
Maidah verse 72:
Whoever commits ‘shirk’ (invoking anything with
Allah), Allah shall forbid for him
Allah says in the Quran: Chapter 4 Surah An-Nisa
Verse 48
Shirk (associating other deities with Allah) is the only sin that Allah does
not forgive, and He forgives, whomsoever He pleases, sins other than this. For whosoever associates any other partner
with Allah, does indeed forge a big lie and commits the most heinous sin
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah
Zumar verse 65-66:
If you commit ‘shirk’ all your works will be
rendered vain and you will be among the losers.
Therefore, you should worship
Allah Alone, and be among His grateful
servants.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah
Zumar verse 67:
These people (who commit shirk) have not
recognized the true worth of Allah, as
His worth should truly be recognized.
(As for His Omnipotence) the entire earth on the Day of Resurrection
shall be in His grasp and the heavens shall be rolled up in His Right
Hand. Glorified is He and Exalted above
the ‘shirk’ that these people commit.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale
Imran verse 80:
He (the Prophet) will never enjoin you (the
believers) to make the angels or the Prophets your ‘Rabbs’. Is it conceivable that a Prophet should
enjoin you to adopt disbelief after you have surrendered to Allah?
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 41 Surah
Fusselat verse 37:
Do not do ‘sajdah’ to the sun and the moon, but do ‘sajdah’ to that Allah, Who Created them, if you really are indeed His worshippers.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 13 Surah
Raad verse 15:
For it is Allah Alone before whom everything in
the heavens and the earth do ‘sajdah’ willingly or un-willingly. Even the shadows of all things do ‘sajdah’
to Allah in the morning and evening!
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 16 Surah
Nahl verse 48-50:
And don’t they observe anything created by
Allah: how it casts its shadow right and left,
doing its ‘sajdah’ to Allah Alone?
Thus do all things express their humility to Allah. All the animate creation in the heavens and
the earth and all the angels do ‘sajdah’ in adoration to Allah Alone. They do not show any arrogance at all, and
fear their Lord, Who is above them, and do whatever they are bidden by Allah.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah
Hajj verse 77:
O you who believe, do ‘rukoo’ and ‘sajdah’ to Allah Alone, worship Allah Alone, and do righteous deeds. It may be that you attain true success.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah Yunus
verse 18:
These people serve beside Allah those which can
neither harm nor benefit them, and say, “These are our ‘shofa’a’ (intercessors)
with Allah!” (O Mohammed), tell them,
“Do you wish to inform Allah of that thing which He knows not in the heavens,
or in the earth?” He is absolutely free
from, and exalted above the shirk that
they commit.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 25 Surah
Furqan verse 43-44:
Have you ever considered the case of the one who
has made his whims his god? Can you
take the responsibility of guiding such a one aright? Do you think that most of them hear or
understand? They are only like the
cattle, nay, even worse than cattle!
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah
Aaraf verse 190-196:
They associate with Allah partners who do not
create anything, but are themselves
created! Who cannot help them nor have
the power to help themselves! If you invite
them to follow the
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 16 Surah
Nahl verse 20-21:
All the other beings, whom the people invoke with Allah, create nothing! Nay,
they are themselves created.
They are DEAD, not living, and they do not at all know themselves when
they shall again be raised to life!
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah
Hajj verse 71-72:
They worship besides Allah those for whom Allah
has sent down NO AUTHORITY! Nor they
themselves have any knowledge about them.
Such transgressors have no helper!
And when our CLEAR REVELATIONS are recited to them, you perceive signs of disdain on the faces of
the disbelievers, as though they were
going to ASSUALT those who recite our Revelations to them!
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Surah
Ahzab verse 66-68:
On the Day their faces are rolled about on the
Fire, they will say, “Would that we had
obeyed Allah and His Messenger!” And
they will say, “O our Lord, we obeyed
our CHIEFS and our GREAT MEN, and they led us astray from the Right Path. O our Lord,
give them a double chastisment and curse them severely”.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah
Anam verse 94:
(And Allah will say), “So, you have come before Us all alone, as We created you at first. Now,
you have left behind all that We gave you in the world. Now We do not see with you those
‘shufa’a’(intercessors), who, you believed,
had a share in moulding your destinies!
All the relations between you and them have been cut off, and all those, in whom you trusted, have left you in the lurch.”
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 16 Surah
Nahl verse 98-100:
Then,
when you begin to recite the Quran,
seek Allah’s refuge against the accursed Shaitaan, for he has no power over those who believe
and put their trust in Allah.
Shaitaan has power (to inspire)
only over those people, who make him
their patron, and practice ‘shirk’ by
his temptation.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah
Yunus verses 28-30:
On the Day when We will muster them
together, We shall say to those who
committed ‘shirk’, “Stay where you are,
you and those whom you set up as partners with Us.” Then We shall remove the state of strangeness
from among them, and the partners they
had set up will say, “You did not worship us!
Allah suffices as a witness between you and us, and (even if you worshipped us), we were
utterly unaware of your worship!” At
that time everyone will taste of what he did.
All shall be brought back to Allah,
their real Lord, and all the lies
they had invented will vanish from them!
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 19 Surah
Maryam verses 81-82:
These people have set up other gods with
Allah, so that they may become their
supporters! There will be no
supporters! They will not only disown
your worship, but also become their
opponents.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter16 Surah
Nahl verses 86-87:
When the people who had committed shirk in this
world will see those whom they had made associates with Allah, they will say, “Our Lord, here are those associate-deities whom we used
to invoke besides You.” At this their
deities will retort, “You are liars!” At
that time, all of them will proffer
submission before Allah, and all that
they used to forge in this world shall vanish from them.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 25 Surah
Furqan verses 17-19:
And on that Day,
(Your Lord) will gather all these people together as well as those whom
they used to invoke besides Allah and ask them, “Did you mislead these servants
of Mine, or did they themselves go
astray?” Those associate-deities will
answer, “Glory be to You! We dared not
take any ‘auliya’ besides You. You did
give them and their forefathers all the good things of life till they forgot
the Admonition, and incurred the
punishment.” Thus will your deities
deny all that you are professing today!
Then you shall neither be able to repel your punishment, nor shall you be able to get any help from
anywhere. And whoever is guilty of
iniquity among you, We shall make him
taste a severe torment!
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah
Anaam verse 19:
Ask them, “Whose testimony is most reliable?”. Say (O Prophet), “Allah is a witness between
me and you, and this Quran has been
revealed to me so that I should thereby warn you and all whom it may reach. What!
Will you really testify that there are other deities besides
Allah?” Say, “As for me, I will never testify such a thing.” Say, “Indeed, He Alone is the Deity, and I feel disgusted
with the ‘shirk’ you practise.”
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 9 Surah
Taubah verse 31:
They have made their scholars and their monks as
their Rabbs besides Allah!
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah
Yunus verse 66:
Note it well that all the dwellers of the
heavens and the earth belong to Allah.
And those who invoke partners besides Allah, follow nothing but surmises and merely
indulge in guess-works!
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 12 Surah
Yusuf verses 39-40:
(Yusuf said), “O my fellow prisoners, say,
which is better: various lords or
the One Omnipotent Allah? The lords
whom you worship other than Allah are nothing more than mere names that you and
your forefathers have invented; for
Allah has sent down absolutely no authority for them. Sovereignty belongs to none but Allah. He has commanded that you shall not worship
anyone but Him. This is the Right and
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 18 Surah
Kahf verse 102:
What? Do
these people, who have disbelieved, presume that they would make My servants
their ‘auliyaas’ besides Me? We have
prepared Hell for the hospitality of such people.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah
Hajj verse 62:
This is so because it is Allah Alone Who is the
Truth, and all others whom they invoke
besides Him, are falsehoods. Allah is He Who is The Supreme and The
Exalted.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 30 Surah
Rum verses 33-35:
When a affliction befalls the people, they
invoke their Lord, turning penitently towards Him. Then, when He makes them taste of His
Mercy, some of them start committing
shirk, so that they may show ingratitude
for Our Favors. Well, enjoy yourselves, for soon you shall know! Have We sent down to them an authority, which may testify to the truth of the Shirk
they are committing.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 30 Surah
Rum verse 40:
Allah it is Who created you; then provided for you; then He causes your death; then He will bring you back to life. Is there among the associates you have set
up (with Allah) anyone, who can do any
of these things? Glorified is He and
Far Exalted above the shirk these people commit.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 35Surah
Fatir verses 13-14:
He merges night into day, and day into
night, and he has subjected the Sun and
the Moon (to His Law); each one runs its
course for an appointed term. Such is
Allah, your Lord! To Him belongs all
Dominion. Those whom you invoke besides
Him, do not own even a blade of
grass! If you call them, they cannot hear your prayers! And if they hear, they cannot answer you! And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your ‘shirk’. None can inform you of the Truth, like the One Who is acquainted with all
things.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 35 Surah
Fatir verses 40:
Say,
“Have you ever seen those associates of yours whom you invoke besides
Allah? Tell me: What have they created in the earth, or what is their share in the heavens? Have We given them a Book, from which they derive a clear sanction (for
their shirk)”. Nay! These wicked people are only beguiling one
another with nothing, but delusion.
Ref: reference for the significance of prayers from
Quran and Sunnah
Beloved brother, one cannot over-emphasize the importance
of significance of ‘salaah’ or prayer in Islam…..such is its importance that
the Messenger of Allah (saws) named ‘salaah’ as one of the five pillars upon
which Islam is based upon!
Again brother, it would be nigh impossible for us to
relate every single reference made for ‘salaah’ in the Quran and the
Sunnah….What we can do for you here (again) is provide only a few quotations
for your reference.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah
Baqarah verses 45-46:
45 Nay! Seek (Allah's) help with
patient perseverance and Prayer: it is indeed hard, except to those who bring a
lowly spirit.

that they are to return to Him.

Ankabut verse 45:
45 Recite what is sent of the Book by inspiration to thee and establish
Regular Prayer: for Prayer restrains from shameful and unjust deeds; and
Remembrance of Allah is the Greatest (thing in life) without doubt. And Allah
knows the (deeds) that ye do.

Israa verses 78-79:
78 Establish regular prayers at the sun's decline till the darkness of

the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer and practice regular charity;

Hajj verse 78:

before and in this (Revelation); that the Apostle may be a witness for you and
ye be witnesses for mankind! So establish regular Prayer give regular Charity

Hajj verses 34-35:

hope for a Commerce that will never fail:
30 For He will pay them their meed nay He will give them (even) more
out of His Bounty; for He is Oft-Forgiving Most Ready to appreciate (service).
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 863 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah
He heard that the Prophet of Allah (saws)
said: ‘The first thing about which the people will be called to account out of their
actions on the Day of Judgment is Prayer. Our Lord, the Exalted, will
say to the Angels - though He knows better: “Look into the prayer of My servant
and see whether he has offered it perfectly or imperfectly.” If it is perfect, that will be recorded as
perfect. If it is defective, He will say: “See if there are some optional
(Sunnah or Nafl) prayers offered by My servant.” If there are optional prayer to his credit,
He will say: “Compensate the obligatory prayer by the optional prayer for My
servant.” Then all the actions will be considered similarly.’
Jabir reports that the Prophet (saws) said,
"Between a person and disbelief is the discarding of prayer."

at-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah.
Buraidah reported that the Prophet (saws)
said, "The pact between us and them is prayer. Whoever abandons it is a disbeliever."

anNasa'i and Ibn Majah.
Dear and beloved brother in Islam, we sincerely seek your
understanding and your forgiveness, and above all the forgiveness of our Lord
Most High ….. for without an iota of a doubt, short of quoting almost the whole
Quran and the whole Sunnah, we could never do justice to the topics you
enquired us about…especially regarding the theme of the worship of Allah
Subhanah Alone and of establishing prayers!
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source
of Strength.
Your brother and
well wisher in Islam,
Burhan
