The Prophet saws said, "Do not choose the Friday night among all other nights for standing in (Tahajjud) prayer
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa

One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa
Barakatuh,
Dear Brother In Islam,
Abu Hurairah (r) reported: The Prophet saws
said, "Do not choose the Friday night among all other nights for standing
in (Tahajjud) prayer, and do not choose Friday among all other days for Saum
(fasting) except that one you have accustomed to." (Muslim)
My question is that, is not permissible to
pray Tahajjud on Friday?

Answer:
Tahajud on friday
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that
there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Hadrat Jabir (r.a.) reported that the Prophet
(saws) said: "Do not fast (exclusively) on Friday unless you fast on it
together with the day before or the day after." Muslim's version states:
"Do not exclusively choose the night of Friday [Thursday night in English]
as a special night for performing the night prayers. Also, do not exclusively
choose Friday as a day of fasting unless it occurs on a day that you regularly
fast."

Your Question: My question is that, is not permissible to pray Tahajjud on Friday?
In light of the above authentic narrations, the Messenger
of Allah (saws) disliked the believers to exclusively choose the day of Friday
to fast, or offer their voluntary night prayers of tahajjud exclusively on
Friday nights.
But if one observed their supererogatory fasts every other
day of the week like the fasts of Prophet Dawood (a.s.)), or fasted the 13th,
14th, and 15th of every month, etc. or one habitually
offered the supererogatory prayers of tahajjud every night, or every other
night, etc. and in that process the day of fast or night of prayer happened to
be on a Friday, there is absolutely no harm in fasting or offering their
habitual tahajjud on Fridays….what is disliked is that one choose to
exclusively fast on a Friday, or offer their tahajjud prayers only on the night
of Friday.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.

well wisher in Islam,
