One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalam alaikum,hope u r fine.i have a question related to Dujjal,what is Dujjal ?why is he to come to the world? what will be his main aim?who will come after him?what will happen next?

As i have been hearing since my childhood is that Dujjal will have one eye on his forehead and he will come to the people and ask them whom do u beleive God or me(Dujjal) showing Heaven and hell on either hands and he will say if u believe me u will go to heaven and if not then to hell.the true muslims on saying that they believe in allah will be slaughtered. How far is this information correct?what does it means by 'He will come to the people'?will he come one by one to everyone's house and ask them the question?what will be his time period and how will he be demolished.some brother in discover islam(bahrain) said that Dujjal will come first and then Essa alahissalam.is this true,plz explain?

i know i have put up lots of question in one ?if its not posible to explain in detail then plz refer me to some books on this topic or some muslim scholars recored audio lectures on it.which i can get easily in Bahrain.

Who is dajjal ?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 6931 Narrated by Hudhayfah ibn Usayd Ghifari

Allah's Messenger (saws) came to us all of a sudden as we were (busy in a discussion). He (saws) asked: ‘What do you discuss about?’ The companions replied: ‘We are discussing about the Last Hour.’ Thereupon he (saws) said: ‘It will not come until you see ten signs before and (in this connection) he made a mention of the smoke, the Dajjal, the beast, the rising of the sun from the west, the descent of Jesus (a.s.) son of Mary, The Gog and Magog, and landslides in three places, one in the east, one in the west and one in Arabia at the end of which fire would burn forth from the Yemen, and would drive people to the place of their assembly.

Amongst the many prophecies foretold by the Noble Messenger of Allah (saws), one amongst them was the advent of an evil, lying, and unimaginably oppressive tyrant (Ad-Dajjal) who will emerge before the end of time as a trial for the people from their Lord. Such will be the magnitude of the people during this period and reign of the evil disbeliever Ad-Dajjal, that every Prophet of Allah warned their followers of the coming of this trial from their Lord before the end of time!

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 5.685 Narrated by Ibn Umar

We were talking about Hajjat-ul-Wada, while the Prophet (saws) was amongst us. We did not know what Hajjat-ul-Wada' signified. The Prophet praised Allah and then mentioned Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal and described him extensively, saying, "Allah did not send any Prophet but that Prophet warned his nation of the trials of the Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal. Noah and the Prophets following him warned (their people) of him. He will appear amongst you (O Muhammad's followers), and if it happens that some of his qualities may be hidden from you, but your Lord's State is clear to you and not hidden from you.” The Prophet said it thrice. “Verily, your Lord is not blind in one eye, while he (i.e. Ad-Dajjal) is blind in the right eye which looks like a grape bulging out (of its cluster).”

Beloved Sister in Islam, the Last Messenger of Allah (saws) warned his followers extensively regarding the advent of this evil tyrant, Ad-Dajjal, who will be sent to earth before the end of time….and there are numerous authentic hadiths which describe in absolute detail the conditions of the trying times to come.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 7037 Narrated by Abu Qatadah

I heard Allah's Messenger (saws) say: ‘There would be no creation (creating more trouble) than the Dajjal, right from the creation of Adam to the Last Hour!’

Now to your specific questions:

Q-1: i have a question related to Dujjal,what is Dujjal ?

Sahih Muslim Hadith 7015 (part) Narrated by An-Nawwas ibn Sam'an

Allah's Messenger (saws) mentioned of the Dajjal one day in the morning and said: ‘He (the Dajjal) will be a young man with twisted, cropped hair, and a blind eye. He will appear on the way between Syria and Iraq and will spread mischief right and left. He will stay on the earth for forty ….( I cannot say whether he meant forty days, forty months or forty years.). He will walk on the earth like cloud driven by the wind. He will come to the people and invite them (to a wrong religion); they will affirm their faith in him and respond to him. He will then give a command to the sky: there will be rainfall upon the earth and it will grow crops. Then in the evening, their pasturing animals will come to them with their humps very high, their udders full of milk and their flanks distended. He will then come to another people and invite them. But they will reject him so he will go away from them; they will have a drought and nothing will be left with them in the form of wealth. He will then walk through the desert and say to it: ‘Bring forth your treasures.’ The treasures will come out and gather before him like a swarm of bees. He will then call someone in the flush of youth, strike him with the sword, cut him into two pieces and make these pieces lie at the distance which is generally between the archer and his target. He will then call (that young man) and he will come forward laughing with his face gleaming (with happiness)…..’

In light of the guidance of the various authentic hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (saws), it is evident that the evil Dajjal will probably be a tyrant ruler or leader who will be given enormous powers by Allah Subhanah, who will invite mankind to a false religion or way of life, and the belief of the believers will be tested during this time like it has never been tested before!

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4305 Narrated by Imran ibn Husayn

The Prophet (saws) said: ‘Let him who hears of the Dajjal go far from him for I swear by Allah that a man will come to him thinking he is a believer, and follow him because of confused ideas roused in him by the Dajjal (and thus become a disbeliever!).

Q-2: why is he to come to the world? what will be his main aim?

Such will be the enormous power bestowed upon the Dajjal as a trial from the Lord, that people will start believing that the Dajjal is indeed the Lord himself!!! His main aim, blinded by the powers bestowed upon him by the Lord Creator, would be to declare himself the Lord and guide the people towards a false religion and way of life.

Q-3: who will come after him? what will happen next?

Sahih Muslim Hadith 7023 (part) Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr

He reported that Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘The Dajjal will appear in my Ummah and he will stay (in the world) for forty--I cannot say whether he meant forty days, forty months or forty years. Allah will then send Jesus, son of Mary, who will chase him (the Dajjal) and subsequently kill him. Then people will live for seven years, during which time there will be no rancour between any two persons. After that Allah will send a cold wind from the direction of Syria. None will survive on earth, having a speck of good in him or faith in him: he will die. Even if some among you were to enter the innermost part of the mountain, this wind would reach that place also and cause your death. Only the wicked people will survive and they will be as careless as birds with the characteristics of beasts. They will never appreciate good nor condemn evil. Then the Shaytaan will come to them, in human form, and would say: ‘Don't you respond?’ They will say:’ What do you order us to do?’. The Shaytaan will command them to worship the idols but, in spite of this, they will have an abundance of sustenance and lead comfortable lives. Then the (first)Trumpet will be blown and he who hears it will bend his neck to one side and raise it from the other side. The first one to hear that Trumpet will be the person who is busy in setting right the cistern meant for supplying water to the camels. He will faint and the other people will also faint. Then Allah will send or He will cause to be sent rain which will be like dew and there will grow out of it the bodies of people. Then the second Trumpet will be blown (and absolutely everything in creation will perish, and thus the Hour will be established).’

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 9.246 Narrated by Abu Said

One day Allah's Messenger (saws) narrated to us a long narration about Ad-Dajjal and among the things he (saws) narrated to us, was: "Ad-Dajjal will come, and he will be forbidden to enter the mountain passes of Medina. He will encamp in one of the salt areas neighboring Medina and there will appear to him a man who will be the best or one of the best of the people. He will say 'I testify that you are the same Ad-Dajjal whose story Allah's Messenger (saws) has foretold us.' Ad-Dajjal will say (to his audience), 'Look, if I kill this man and then give him life, will you have any doubt about my claim (of being the Supreme Lord)?' They will reply, 'No,' Then Ad-Dajjal will kill that good believer, and then will make him alive. That believer will say, 'By Allah, now I recognize you more than ever!' Ad-Dajjal will then try to kill him (again) but he will not be given the power to do so."

Q-5: what does it means by 'He will come to the people'? will he come one by one to everyone's house and ask them the question?

Beloved Sister in Islam, what we know and believe with absolute conviction of the Dajjal or anything of the future that will transpire is only what is related in Truth by the Messenger of Allah (saws).

In light of the guidance of the various ahaadiths regarding the advent and reign of the Ad-Dajjal, it is evident that the Dajjal will be an enormously powerful, ruthless, and an absolutely tyrant ruler….whose rule will engulf the whole earth, who will be able to introduce such a climate that every soul will be influenced his will, whose message will be beamed to every household, whatever he holds as good will be accepted as good by everyone, and whatever he condemns as evil will be condemned as evil by all!!! He need not come to each and every individual to ask them the question (nor is it possible for one to do such a thing!), but the climate, and environment, and influence he will be able to create will be such that he will be able to influence the decision of each and every individual.

Allow us to relate an example of present times, which if multiplied by a million or billion times would perchance reflect an image of what the trial of the times of the evil Dajjal would possibly bring:

The leader of the current super-power nation has such enormous sway over the opinion of the world, that whichever nation or people he befriends and declares as good…the whole world accepts them as good; and whichever nation of people he declares as the ‘axis of evil’, the whole world condemns as evil! This leader can create a climate of lies, and deception, and false accusations against another nation (Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, etc.)…..and with the powerful machines of propaganda at his disposal, he can get approval from the United Nations to even declare war on these nations! He will allow the nations and people who accept his leadership to grow and prosper (Europe, Canada, Australia, Egypt, Gulf countries, etc.); and the nations and people he declares as ‘evil’ and ‘isolates’ for one reason or another (like Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Syria, etc.) will be desolate and impoverished!

If one takes this leader, and multiplies his evil, and his power, and his lies, and his deception, and his machines of propaganda by a million or even a billion times, perchance one could imagine the trials of the times of the evil Dajjal!

In light of the above and various other authentic and established hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (saws) the Dajjal and his evil mission will indeed by annihilated at the hands of the Noble Messenger of Allah, Isa ibn Maryam (a.s.).

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
