One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
TALIMAT
Quraan by a women
Assalam-OAlaikum
One
woman Scholar Dr. Farhat Hashmi started the education of Quraan for women. She
established a faculty by the name of ALHUDA in Islamabad Pakistan for this
purpose. Our many sisters and daughters are being educated for the TALIMAT of
Quraan.
I bought
a full set of her cassets and start listening the meaning of Quraan with
TAFSEER from Para 1 to Para 30. Her lectures are in detail and one can under
stand easily. One day i was listening the Tafsser of Para one, some guests were
also with me, they argued that this is forbidden in Islam to get the education
from a woman Scholar.
Kindly
guide me can i listen these cassets for ncreasing my knowledge of Quraan.
Best

Answer:
Man Learning from Woman Scholar
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that
there is no one (no idol, no person, no
grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Your
Question: …they argued that this is forbidden in Islam to get the education

It would be incorrect to state that it is forbidden in
Islam to gain knowledge from a woman scholar, simply because there is enough
evidence in history that the companions used to regularly learn Islamic injunctions
from the noble and chaste wife of the Prophet (saws) Hadrat Aisha (r.a.) after
the Prophet’s (saws) death. Thus, in
essence, there is no harm if one seeks knowledge from a woman scholar in Islam.
Thus the issue should not be between whether it is forbidden
or permissible in Islam for a man to learn from a non-mehram woman scholar; but
rather what is better and purer. There
is no doubt that in an age where there are several good men scholars, it would
be better and purer for a man to seek knowledge from a man, and save himself
from allowing his heart and his desire the possibility of putting himself on
trial upon constantly hearing a non-mehram woman’s voice.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.
Your brother and sincere well
wisher in Islam,
Burhan
