Dear Brother In Islam, Assalamalikum.

My question is:

After performing Nikah, how long a bride and groom can stay a part from the each other? Is there any time limit, within that time the bride and groom should have completed there intimate relation (Honeymoon)? Looking forward to hear the answer with explanation in reference to the Holly Book and saws hadith.

How long consummation

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Under normal circumstances, it is not natural for the husband and wife to not enjoy each others company after their marriage. Because this is a natural course of urgency, Islam has not stipulated a precise or specific time limit whereby a husband and wife must have sexual relations with each other. They are permitted to consummate their marriage whenever they wish to do so.

In the situation where only the legality of the ‘nikaah’ ceremony is performed and the consummation of marriage or ‘rukhsati’, when the husband and wife actually start living together as a family, is put off for a later date with the consent of both parties, there is absolutely no harm.

But if the nikaah between a couple is performed, and one party fears that the other party has a devious plan and is intentionally delaying the consummation to harm the rights of the other party, then they have a right to demand that either the consummation takes place, and if not, initiate a divorce proceeding against the person.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
