Answer:
Junub
and fast
In the
name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness.
Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray,
none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam,
no dai, nobody!) worthy of
worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His
slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Al-Muwatta Hadith 18.12
Yahya related from Malik that A'isha and Umm Salama, the wives of
the Prophet (saws) said, "The Messenger of Allah (saws) used to get up in
the morning ‘junub’ (defilement) from (sexual) intercourse, not a dream, and
would then fast."
Sahih Muslim Hadith 2453 Narrated
by Umm Salamah
AbuBakr ibn AbdurRahman reported that Marwan sent him to Umm
Salamah to ask whether a person should observe fast who is in a state of
‘junub’ (sexual defilement) and the dawn breaks upon him, whereupon she said
that the Messenger of Allah (saws) (was at times) ‘junbi’ on account of
intercourse and not due to dream, and the dawn broke upon him, but he (saws)
neither broke the fast nor recompensed.
Sahih Muslim Hadith 2456 Narrated
by Umm Salamah
Sulayman ibn Yasar reported that he asked Umm Salamah whether a
person (who gets up) in the morning in a state of ‘junub’ (sexual defilement)
should observe fast. She said: ‘The
Messenger of Allah (saws) (at times) got up in the morning in a state of
‘Junub’, not because of dream (but on account of intercourse at night), and then
observed fast.’
Sahih Muslim Hadith 2454 Narrated
by Aisha and Umm Salamah
The Messenger of Allah (saws) at times got up in the morning in a
state of ‘Junub’ (sexual defilement) on account of having a sexual intercourse
(with his wives during night) but not due to sexual dreams in the month of
Ramadan, and would observe fast.
In light
of the above authentic narrations, there is absolutely no harm if one wakes up
after dawn in a state of sexual defilement and continues his fast in the month
of Ramadan. The fast will be counted as
valid, and there is no ‘kaffarah’ or atonement necessary for this act.
