Identical Dreams

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Salaams, i wanted to know what it means when two people have the exact same dream. and not jst once coincidentally, but continuously for many years. and have never revealed the details of the dreams to anyone, except each other.  is this a good sign or bad ?? the dreams dont come anymore to either of the people, only when they were children. the dream also did not consist of anything that a regular person would find scarey, jst these two people were afraid of its eerie content. what is the meaning of this ?? please help. jazakallah

Answer:

Identical dreams

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Al-Muwatta Hadith 52.4

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that Abu Salama ibn Abd ar-Rahman said, "I heard Abu Qatada ibn Ribiyy say that he heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) say, 'The good dream is from Allah, and the bad dream is from Shaytan. When you see what you dislike, spit to your left side three times when you wake up, and seek refuge with Allah from its evil. It will not harm you then, Allah willing.' " Abu Salama said, "I would see dreams which weighed on me more heavily than a mountain. When I heard this hadith, I was not concerned about it."

It is possible that more than one person has the same exact or similar dream. The implications of the dream depend on the contents of the dream, for the person receiving the dreams, regardless of how many other people have had the same dream.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
