Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

salaam brother,
i was wondering if im fasting and at the same time i have phone sex with a non muslim girl, does that result in my fast being broken or not accpected ?

Answer:

Phone sex in Ramadhan

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

There are five things which will break or invalidate the fast:

Eating

Drinking

Sexual intercourse

voluntary semen discharge

the menstruation of the woman while fasting

Brother, we have no knowledge how far does one go with this new phenomena of ‘phone-sex’, but if your semen was discharged, then indeed the fast would be broken and invalid.

Besides, having illicit and private talks with a non-mehram woman, whether she is a believer or non-believer, is a serious sin in the sight of Allah Subhanah; whether one is in the state of fasting or not! The believers must fear Allah and abstain from this evil and heinous sin.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah Israa verse 32:Do not even go near ‘zina’ (fornication or adultery) for it is a very indecent thing and a very evil way!

Although it is named ‘phone-sex’ it would not constitute in itself an act of actual ‘zina’; but it definitely would be a path that leads to ‘zina’, and the believers who sincerely fear Allah and the Last Day, must heed the Command of their Merciful Lord to ‘not even go near zina’!

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
