Wisdom divorce ruling of a pregnant wife and iddah
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
Assalam Alaikum I want to understand the wisdom behind the ruling of divorcing a pregnant wife and Iddah. Why has the pregnant divorced women sit for Iddah till child is born even it is well known that who does the child belong to i.e. the father of the child? Because as far as I know the wisdom behind the ruling of Iddah is to make sure of the father of the child or if I'm wrong then please do correct me. I'm confused in this regard. Jazak Allah

Answer:
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
The iddah period after the proclamation of the divorce was made to give the couple a fair chance to reconcile the marriage bond. During this period the believer is commanded to allow the woman to be in the same house, live life normally without putting any hurdles or abuses whatsoever.
If the woman is pregnant, the believer is required to allow her to stay in the house with full services paid by him till she delivers the child. The wisdom behind this law has manifold benefits. It is possible that Allah swt may make the reconciliation possible and melt the hearts when a child is involved. Second is that the woman is not put into any burden of bearing the immediate anxiety of the pending divorce and expenses of her pregnancy.
Nowadays most Muslims kick the poor woman out of the house for nonsensical matters without following the laws laid down by the Quran. These people will have a severe accounting to make before the just court of Allah ajjavajal on that inevitable Day of Judgement.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
