Answer:

Meaning of Bayt

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Bayt means to take an oath of allegiance, or to make a solemn covenant with someone.

The biggest ‘bayt’ one takes as a believer is the covenant he makes with his Lord and Creator and declares that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah Subhanah Alone, and that Mohamed (saws) is His Messenger (saws).

This same bayt was taken by the Messenger of Allah (saws) from all the people who entered Islam.

Another type of bayt is what a muslim leader takes from the population in an Islamic State. The people give the leader an oath of allegiance, accept his leadership, and make a covenant with the leader to obey and follow him as long as he follows the guidance of the Quran and Sunnah.

Thus, the only bayt a believer may need to take in this day and age, is if there is indeed an Islamic Statewith a true muslim leader, then it would be fine to give this leader a ‘bayt’ or oath of allegiance that we would obey and follow him provided he obeys and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws).

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
