Hello Burhan, I just read your answer on Shabe-Baraat. I thought this night was the night of Hazrat Ali and Bibi Fatima`s wedding. Is that not true.

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His  forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

There is no authentic record of the date of Hadrat Ali’s (r.a.) wedding to Bibi Fatema (r.a.), thus we cannot confirm the date on which they were actually married.

The Prophet of Allah (saws) himself married eleven times in his life, and there are no records of that. Neither he, nor his noble family, nor his noble companions, celebrated any of their wedding anniversaries, their birthdays, or the death days of their loved ones! Thus to nominate a night and celebrate it as the wedding anniversary of the Prophet’s companion and daughter, is at best an innovation, which has absolutely no basis in Islam.

It has been reported by Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib (r.a.) that the Prophet of Allah (saws) said: "If anyone introduces an innovation (in religion), he will be responsible for it. If anyone introduces an innovation or gives shelter to a man who introduces an innovation (in religion), he is cursed by Allah, by His angels, and by all the people."

It has been reported by Jabir ibn Abdullah (r.a.) in another authentic narration that the Prophet of Allah (saws) said in a sermon: "The best speech is that which is embodied in the Book of Allah, the Al Quran; and the best guidance is the guidance given by me, Mohamed (saws). The most evil affairs are the innovations, and every innovation is an error."

The important thing in Islam is to follow Allah and His Messenger (saws). If they command you to do something, do it without hesitation for it can only be good. And if they command you to abstain from something, or the Prophet (saws) did not do that thing in his lifetime; then stay away from it, for it cannot possibly have any good in it. That is the teaching and guidance of Islam.

If we start inventing and celebrating events, just imagine, there were 124,000 Prophets; most of them had multiple wives; most of them had multiple children, etc. Then there were tens of thousands of the Prophet’s companions, most of whom had multiple wives and children! Just imagine, if the muslims everywhere chose to celebrate the birthdays, and wedding anniversaries, and death days of each of the noble people!!! These ‘innovations’ have absolutely no basis or authority in the deen of Islam! Every day and every night belongs to Allah Subhanah, and should be celebrated as such. For every day that Allah has blessed us with life, we should count it as a blessing and use this time to do the maximum number of deeds that are pleasing to Him. That is the teaching and guidance of Islam.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
