What is Wajib
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Depending on the exact Declaration and the Tone of the Divine Text, or how exactly did the Messenger of Allah (saws) understand and implement the Guidance of the Glorious Quran in his life, the scholars and jurists in Islam have differentiated and divided the Commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws) into various categories of obligatory, voluntary, recommended, etc.
Fard or Wajib: Although most scholars have used 'fard' and 'wajib' as synonyms, some scholars have declared that 'wajib' is just fractionally below a 'fard'. Any Command or Declaration of Allah and/or His Messenger (saws) which has been declared as absolutely obligatory would fall under this category. If one does this 'fard' or 'wajib' act as commanded, they would be eligible to receive a huge reward from Allah Subhanah; and if one chooses to voluntarily abstain, they would be involved in a grave sin.
Sunnah: Everything the Messenger of Allah (saws) did, or said, or happened in his presence and he remained silent would be considered a Sunnah or a practice or tradition of the Noble Messenger of Allah (saws). Then from amongst the Sunnah, depending on the tone or the declaration or persistence of the act by the Noble Prophet (saws), it would determine whether the act is 'Muaqqedah' (extremely preferred), 'Ghayr-Muaqqedah' (preferred), 'Mustahab' (recommended), etc.
Terms such as 'Fard', 'Wajib', 'Sunnah', 'Nafl', 'Mustahab', etc. are terms of Islamic Fiqh or Jurisprudence developed by the scholars and jurists of Islam to determine the exact level of importance of an act or a deed.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah's Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
Your brother and well wisher in Islam,
