Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Salam. When I arrived for the first time in Jeddah, Haj was supposed to fall immediately after my arrival and I decided to do the haj that year itself. I am confused on the matter that the driver who took me to perform Haj did not drop for Umrah rather proceeded directly to Mena. I returned to offer Tawaf Ziyarah only after stoning the Jamarat on the first day. Is doing Haj without doing Omrah even for once is okay or there is any problem in that. Thank you for your advise.

Answer:

Hajj ifrad qiran tamattu

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

There is allowance in the Shariah for a pilgrim to perform three types of Hajj:

  1. Hajj-e-Ifraad: ie. where a pilgrim performs only the Hajj without the Umrah pilgrimage.
  2. Hajj-e-Qiran: ie. where the pilgrim performs both the Umrah and the Hajj pilgrimage in one state of ‘ehraam’.
  3. Hajj-e-Tamattu: ie. where the pilgrim enters in the state of ‘ehram’ from the ‘Meeqat’ and performs the Umrah first, then comes out of the state of ‘ehram’, and before the days of Hajj enters into the state of ‘ehram’ for a second time to perform the Hajj pilgrimage.

Your Question: Is doing Haj without doing Omrah even for once is okay or there is any problem in that.

If one wishes or chooses to perform only the Hajj pilgrimage without the Umrah or ‘Hajj-e-Ifraad’, there is absolutely no harm.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
