One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

is being in the police force wrong

Answer:

Police job legal or illegal

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

In its essence, there is absolutely no restriction or wrong in joining a police force, be it of an Islamic nation or otherwise. Like most other ‘lawful’ jobs, what one does when employed in those jobs will determine whether their deeds are right or wrong, virtue or sin.

If a believer is employed in the police force, is honest and truthful, enjoins what is good, forbids and tries to prevent what is evil, and lives, works, and says what is within the declared boundaries of Islam, he will receive his due reward for his good deeds from his Lord Most Gracious.

But if one who is employed in the police force is dishonest, takes bribes, oppresses the doers of good, encourages the doers of evil, and lives, works and says what is in transgression of the declared boundaries of Islam, he will have his due accounting with the Lord Most High.

Thus working in a police force, regardless of whether it is in an Islamic country or not, is absolutely lawful; what one does there will determine whether his deeds are amongst the right or the wrong in the Sight of Allah Subhanah.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
