Saying: “Your life will be longer than his”

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
As-Salaamu-Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
When a person wants to do something or say something and someone else beats him to it, is it Sunnah to say “His life will be longer than his” i.e., the life of the one who spoke first will be longer than the life of the one who wanted to say it. Is saying this Sunnah?.
(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

There is no basis in the Sunnah for saying this as far as we know. If the same words or idea cross the minds of two or more people, there is nothing strange about that. If one person says it first, that does not indicate that his life will be long or short.

And Allaah knows best.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah's Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
