What is Sajdah?

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

You stupids dont know what is sajdah and who were the actual angels, metioned in Quran if you will know that, you won’t lift your head from the sajdah offered to syedna tus may allah give you taufiq or send you to hell

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

What is Sajdah?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and who-ever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Brother, this forum was made for discussion on the true deen of Islam for the Pleasure of Allah Subhanah Alone, and we respect your views. We will base our views from the guidance of the Holy Quran. We are always willing to learn, and would appreciate if you could expand on your views here for all our readers to understand, and Allah Subhanah will bless you and reward you on the Day of Judgement for guiding us to the Straight Path, Insha Allah. Allah never lets go in waste a good deed done for His Pleasure. And the good deed you would do in guiding tens of thousands of believers, would definitely be appreciated by the One and Only Ash-Shukoor Allah, who is able and capable of appreciating the good deeds of the believers.

Ref: Sajdah

The way we understand the term ‘sajdah’ in light of the Holy Quran and the traditions of the Prophet (saws) is to bow down in prostration with your knees and forehead on the floor in obedience, humility and worship to none other than Allah Subhanah. This act was performed by our beloved Prophet Mohamed (saws) and all his companions and believers worldwide several times a day in their prayers and when supplicating to Allah Subhanah.

If there is another concept of ‘sajdah’ in Islam and we are not aware of it, we would really appreciate if you could give us your opinion on what exactly ‘sajdah’ is, and Insha Allah, we shall post it for all our brothers and sisters on this forum to read and understand your view of ‘sajdah’. We would really like to know if Allah has indeed commanded us to bow down in ‘sajdah’ to any of His Creation. May Allah reward you for your good deeds with contentment in this world, and Paradise in the Hereafter.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 41 Surah Fusselat verse 37:Do not do ‘sajdah’ to the sun and the moon, but do ‘sajdah’ to that Allah, Who Created them, if you really are indeed His worshippers.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah Hajj verse 77:O you who believe, do ‘rukoo’ and ‘sajdah’ to Allah Alone, worship Allah Alone, and do righteous deeds. It may be that you attain true success.

Ref: Angels

Again, the concept of angels in light of the Holy Quran is that Allah created angels from ‘noor’ or light for his service, obedience and worship. These are Allah’s creations like everything else, and they do exactly as they are ordered by Allah. They do not have a will of their own like the human beings and jinns.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 19 Surah Maryam verse 64:(The angels say): “We descend not, but by the command of the Lord. To Him belongs what is before us and what is behind us and what is in between. And the Lord is never forgetful.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imran verse 80:He (the Prophet) will never enjoin you (the believers) to make the angels or the Prophets your ‘Rabbs’. Is it conceivable that a Prophet should enjoin you to adopt disbelief after you have surrendered to Allah?

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 34 Surah Saba verse 40-41:And the Day when He will gather all mankind together, He will ask the angels, “Did they (mankind) really worship you?”. The Angels will reply, “Glory be to You O Allah! Our connection is with You, not with them.”

In light of the above Aayah of the Holy Quran, we understand that the angels are the ‘actual’ angels as created by Allah Himself.

But if you do have knowledge of who exactly are the ‘actual’ angels as mentioned in your comment to our email, we would appreciate if you could let us know, so that we too might have further knowledge on this subject.

Ref: if we knew what was ‘sajdah’ and the ‘actual angels’ we would not lift our heads from TUS’s sajdah.

Brother, if you can prove what is your opinion of ‘sajdah’ and ‘actual angels’ based on the Holy Quran, and prove that the TUS really deserves our ‘sajdah’ and rites of worship, we would really appreciate it. Allah will reward you Insha Allah for your good deeds in guiding us to the Straight Path.

Ref: May Allah give us tawfeeq or send us to Hell.

We pray to Allah to accept your first supplication for us. We are all indeed in desperate need of Allah’s tawfeeq, as we are all His created slaves and nobody could give us a better supplication than that. Jazak Allah Kheir for your dua for us, and we pray the same for you from the bottom of our hearts. May Allah accept yours and our dua. Ameen.

The second dua is one of concern. Hell fire is a place we would not even wish our enemies to go. The place is such that for eternity one would be in so much torture and pain and regrets, that the Holy Quran says that if one were to possess all the riches of the world, and he gave it as ransom to come out of there, it would not be accepted by Allah. Thus, we pray to Allah Subhanah that He, with His infinite Mercy, save you and your families and us and our families and all the believers from that terrible abode. All Praise is due to Allah, He is the Only Judge and Master and Sovereign King of the Day of Judgment, and He has not given any body else the power to condemn one to Hell.

Brother, may Allah bless you and your posterity for helping us understand these concepts of worship and creation. We would really appreciate an answer from you based on the guidance and teachings of the Holy Quran, so that we could follow the way of the truthful believers.

May Allah take you and us, and all our families and all the believers into His Mercy. May Allah guide us to live our lives according to the guidance and teachings of the Glorious Quran. May Allah save you and us, and all our families and all the believers from the unbearable torture of Hell Fire, have Mercy on us, Forgive us, and enter us into the Gardens of Bliss, underneath which canals flow, as promised by Him in His Book, the Al Quran.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
