Hijab Issue in Saudi

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Salam Burhan,

Why does the Saudi women say that the word Hijab is not written in the Al-Quran and therefore it is considered as an invention by scholars and imans after the death of our beloved Nabi SAW.  They says at most the Quran says to believing women to cover yourself and that doesn't in any way says covering of the hair is mentioned.

Therefore following these scholars and imans' point of view who reco mmended us to wear the hijab, these Saudi women believe it is shirik to wear the Hijab.  These women only don the Hijab out of respect for the law imposed by the government (Saudi) and not for fear of Allah SubhanaAllah.

Is that why we see so many Eygptian women in their country wearing ultra short mini skirts and exposing themselves just like non believing women do?  Please help me to understand this. thank you

(sister)

Hijab Issue in Saudi

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His  forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 24 Surah Noor verse 31:

And says (O Prophet) to the believing women to restrain their gaze, and guard their private parts, and not to display their adornment except that which is displayed of itself, and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and not to display their adornment except before their husbands, their fathers, the fathers of their husbands, their sons, and the sons of their husbands (from other wives), their brothers, their brother’s sons, their sister’s sons, their female associates, and those in their possession, and male attendants incapable of sexual desire, and those boys who have not yet attained knowledge of sex matters concerning women. Also forbid them to stamp their feet on the ground, lest their hidden ornaments should be displayed.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Surah Ahzaab verse 59:

O Prophet, enjoin your wives and daughters, and the women of the believers, that they should let down over their faces a part of their outer-garments. It is expected that they will thus be recognized, and not molested. Allah is Oft-Forgiving and Very Merciful.

The Glorious Quran is extremely clear in its commandments for the believing women to cover themselves from the non-mehram males. Besides, one must not judge an aayah of the Quran by how some ‘Saudi’ women, or how some ‘Saudi’ scholars understand the verse! One must see how did the Messenger of Allah (saws) understand the above command of Allah, and how did he implement this command on his wives and his daughters, and the women of the believers.

There are several authentic narrations of the wives and daughters of the Prophet (saws) and the believers, on how they implemented these aayahs when they were revealed in Medina. And each one of them used to cover themselves fully, including their hair, after the above verses of the Glorious Quran were revealed.

Thus the ‘Saudi’ women who say that the Quran does not call the believing women to cover themselves and their hair from the non-mehram males, have given a wrong decision in their ignorance. And their saying that to wear a hijaab is equivalent to the heinous sin of ‘shirk’, is absolutely incorrect, and not from the guidance of the Quran and the Sunnah.

It may happen that at times, some people, in their ignorance of the Divine Laws, and in their arrogance of not obeying the commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws); come up with all kinds of justification to allow them to move around in a way which is acceptable to them, rather than to Allah Subhanah! In making such blasphemous decisions of some of the clear commands of the Glorious Quran, these ‘Saudi’ women have tried to justify their own lusts and desires, rather than submit to the clear commands of Allah Subhanah. May Allah have mercy on them and guide them to the Truth of Islam.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Surah Ahzaab verse 36:

It does not behove a believing man and a believing woman that when Allah and His Messenger have given their decision in a matter, they should exercise an option in that matter of theirs. For whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, has indeed strayed into manifest error.

Your Statement: These women only don the Hijab out of respect for the law imposed by the government (Saudi) and not for fear of Allah SubhanaAllah.

The women who don the hijaab out of respect for the law imposed on them by the Saudi government, should expect to get their reward by the Saudi government; as they will not receive any reward from Allah on the Day of Judgment.

But the believing women, who sincerely fear Allah and the Last Day, and are the foremost in obeying the commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws); and their reason for donning their hijaab is because their Lord has commanded them to do so…..will receive a generous reward from their Bounteous Lord on a Day, when the Government and Sovereignty will belong only to the One All Mighty Lord of the Universe!

Your Statement: Is that why we see so many Eygptian women in their country wearing ultra short mini skirts and exposing themselves just like non believing women do?

The law of Allah is that every person will be responsible for his/her own deeds. If some Egyptian women in their country wear ultra short mini skirts, and expose themselves to non-mehram males; they will have to answer for their deeds in the Just Court of Allah. They might have preferred to follow the latest trends of fashion and immorality as practiced by the ungodly and ignorant-so-called-modern-world, rather than be honored to be dressed in the uniform that Allah has decreed for them.

May Allah have mercy on them, and guide them to the Straight Path of Islam.

But I assure you that there are millions of good believing women in Egypt, and millions of other righteous women all over the world who fear the accounting of an Inevitable Day in the Court of their Lord, and live their lives in the shadow of the guidance and teachings of Allah and His Messenger (saws). They feel honored to be recognized as God-fearing women, and don the hijaab and wear righteous clothing, as commanded by their Lord and Creator. They look towards Allah Subhanah Alone for the rewards of their sacrifice; and Allah Subhanah will not disappoint his obedient servants on the Day of Recompense.

To follow the guidance of Allah and His Messenger (saws), we must not see what is happening in a particular country like Saudia, or Egypt, or Malaysia, or Algeria, etc. What we must concentrate on is, what is commanded by Allah and His Messenger (saws), and strive to do whatever they have commanded us to do, and abstain from everything that they have commanded us to abstain from; if indeed we are true believers.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
