Answer:

What deeds harden or kill the heart

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2337 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "When a believer sins a black spot or stain is marked on his heart, and if he repents and asks pardon his heart is polished; but if he does more sins the black spot increases till it gains ascendancy over his heart. That is the rust mentioned by Allah Most High, 'Nay, but what they were committing has spread like rust over their hearts' (Al-Quran 83:14)."

Every time one commits an evil, or a sin, or one intentionally transgresses one of the Prescribed Boundaries of the Lord Most High….a stain or spot or rust gathers upon their hearts; and every time one turns back unto their Lord Most Gracious and repents, that stain is removed from their hearts.

The greater the sin one commits, the more one’s heart hardens and ‘dies’…..and the better one manifests one repentance, the more one’s heart is cleansed and polished.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.49 Narrated by An Numan bin Bashir

I heard Allah's Messenger (saws) saying, 'Both lawful (halaal) and unlawful (haraam) things are evident; but in between them there are doubtful (suspicious) things and most of the people have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves himself from these suspicious things, saves his religion, and his honor. And whoever indulges in these suspicious things is like a shepherd who grazes (his animals) near the ‘Hima’ (private pasture) of someone else and at any moment he is liable to get in it! (O people!) Beware! Every king has a ‘Hima’ and the ‘Hima’ of Allah on the earth is His illegal (forbidden) things. Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt; and that is, the heart.’

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
