Eid on Jumuah Friday
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
(May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
Assalamoalaikum
I
asked the same question from my known mufti so he declined that whether Eid
comes on Friday we shall need to offer both prayers and if we do not offer
jumma prayer that will be a kabeera sin.
(There may be some grammatical and spelling
errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from

Answer:
Eid on Jumuah Friday
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His
help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide,
and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear
witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His
Messengers.
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 1068 Narrated by
Abu Hurayrah
The Prophet (saws) said: ‘Two festivals (EId
and Friday) have synchronized on this day. If anyone does not want to offer the
Jumuah prayer, the EId prayer is sufficient for him. But we shall offer the
Jumuah prayer.’
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 1066 Narrated by
Abdullah ibn Abbas
Ata` ibn AbuRabah said: ‘Ibn az-Zubayr (r.a.)
led us in the EId prayer on Friday early in the morning. When we went to offer
the Jumuah prayer, he did not come out to us. So we prayed ourselves alone. At
that time Ibn Abbas (r.a.) was present in at-Ta`if. When he came to us, we
mentioned this (incident) to him. He (Ibn Abbas (r.a.) said: ‘He (Ibn
az-Zubair’ (r.a.) has followed the Sunnah.’
If the day of Eid happens to fall on a Friday, the Messenger
of Allah (saws) has given an allowance to the believers that if one amongst
them attends the Eid prayers and sermon, it would suffice for them and they are
not obligated to attend the Jumuah sermon and prayers if they do not wish to do
so.
Please do note that this is only an allowance and a
concession, not a command! If one offers
both the Eid as well as the Jumuah prayers, obviously one would be entitled to
earn more rewards from their Lord Most Gracious.
The most that can be said of one who attends the Eid
prayer and sermon and chooses to skip the Jumuah sermon and prayer is that one
missed a great opportunity to earn extra rewards from their Lord.
After the Messenger of Allah (saws) has himself given the
allowance and the concession to the believers who have attended the Eid prayers
to skip the Jumuah prayers, to declare the skipping of Jumuah as a sin, leave
alone a ‘kabeera’ or ‘grave sin’, would not be in accordance with the Guidance
of the Messenger of Allah (saws)!
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only
due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me
alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is
the Only Source of Strength.

well wisher in Islam,
Burhan
