Perform multiple umrahs

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Sheikh Buhran

I have few questions related Haj and Umra as follows and I hope you may try to answer them. Thank you

1st Question

Performing Umra many time by using meqat as Masjid Aisha R.A

I went Umra where I have seen many of our brother are doing many Umra by going to masjid Aisha R.A even I have done about ten but later someone told my it is not correct since you have to go the Meeqat those on border of Mecca sahrif. My real concern is if it is true then why Government of Saudi provided allowed Masjid Aisha R.A to use as meqat.

Could you please tell me how many Umra we can do and can we use masjid Aisha R.A as meqat.

Answer:

Perform multiple umrahs

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

To the best of our knowledge there is no evidence in the authentic and established Sunnah whereby the Messenger of Allah (saws) or his noble companions ever performed two Umrahs on one visit to the Sacred House; thus it would be best and purest for the believers to follow the Sunnah and perform only one Umrah pilgrimage during their visit to the Sacred House of Allah.

Some believers try to use the incident of Hadrat Aisha’s Umrah during the Hajj-al-Wida of the Prophet (saws) as evidence that one can perform two (or more) Umrahs during one visit; but according to the majority of the scholars that permission was given under special circumstances and not as a general concession. During the Hajj-al-Wida, Hadrat Aisha could not perform the Umrah pilgrimage with the believers due to her being in her natural state of menstruation. When she purified herself from her state of menstruation, the Messenger of Allah (saws) told her that she must go outside the boundaries of Makkah (to what is today known as Masjid-Aisha), adorn the ehram, and perform the Umrah she missed due to her state of menstruation.

If one wishes to perform the Umrah pilgrimage for their deceased loved ones, they should undertake the journey to the Sacred House for that purpose only; it is expected that Allah Subhanah will give the person the full reward of their efforts without diminishing the rewards of the one who actually performs it.

It is not in accordance of the guidance and teachings of the Messenger of Allah (saws) to visit the Sacred House and perform the Umrah pilgrimage multiple times during the same visit.

Your Question: ….My real concern is if it is true then why Government of Saudi provided allowed Masjid Aisha R.A to use as meqat.

Fiqh-us-Sunnah Fiqh 5.28a

‘Mawaqit ‘are the specific places where a pilgrim intending to visit Makkah for 'Umrah or Hajj must declare his intention and put on ihram..

The Prophet (saws) himself specified these places:

For the people of Madinah the ‘miqat’ (singular of mawaqit) is Dhal-Halaifah, a place 450 kilometres to the north of Makkah, from where they must declare their intention and don the ihram..

For those coming from the direction of Syria, Jordan, Palestine and Lebanon, the ‘miqat’ is Al-Juhfah, a place 187 kilometres to the north-west of Makkah, and close to Rabigh, which is 204 kilometres from Makkah.

The ‘miqat’ for people of coming from the direction of Najd is Qarn al Manazil, a mountain 94 kilometres to the east of Makkah.

Yalamlam, a mountain 54 kilometres to the south of Makkah is the ‘miqat’ for those coming from the direction of Yemen.

For the pilgrims coming from the direction of Iraq, the miqat is Dhat Irq, a place 94 kilometres to the north-east of Makkah.

These places were fixed by the Prophet (saws) himself for all those who pass by them whether they come from these specific areas or some other areas. The Prophet (saws) said: "These places are for the people (coming from the direction of the above specified countries) as well as for others who pass by them on their way to perform Hajj or 'Umrah."

To the best of our humble knowledge, neither the Government of Saudi Arabia nor anyone else proclaims that the ‘Masjid Aisha’ is a ‘meeqat’ for pilgrimage….and even if they did (which they obviously haven’t), our duty as believers is to obey and follow the Guidance of Allah and His Messenger (saws) Alone!

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
