Sitteer, Malik are they names of Allah ?

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear brother Burhan, As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Are Sitteer and Maleek from the names of Allah. If so please refer to the verse of the Holy Quran and the Hadeeth? May Allah guide you.

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

Sitteer, Malik are they names of Allah ?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Ref: Sitteer

Sitteer is definitely not amongst the Beautiful Names of Allah Subhanah.

Ref: Malik

Malik or Maalik is also one of the Beautiful Names of Allah Subhanah, and it means the Sovereign Master or Lord.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 1 Surah Fateha verse 4: Maalik (Sovereign Master and Lord) of the Day of Judgment.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Note:

Beloved sister in Islam, we did some further research on the term ‘Sitteer’ and indeed found it in one of the authentic hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (saws) to be amongst the names and Attributes of Allah Subhanah. Although the term ‘Sitteer’ is not mentioned in the Glorious Quran by Allah Subhanah, nor is it included in the list of the 99 Names and Attributes of Allah Subhanah, we did find a mention of it in one of the authentic hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (saws) related by Abu Dawood, Nisai, and Ahmad.

As-Sitteer basically means The One Who Hides or Covers or Encompasses His slaves, and the Messenger of Allah (saws) has mentioned As-Sitteer as one of the Attributes of Allah Subhanah.

We sincerely and humbly apologize for our over-sight, and hope you will understand that we are only human and trying to the best of our ability to serve the Cause of Allah Subhanah.

Your brother and sincere well-wisher in Islam,

Burhan
