Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
Assalam-o-Alaikum. Dear Brother Burhan. This time i am here with some matters which are causing much confusion to me.Please give early reply (as soon as possible ):5.Who were Tabee Tab`een ?? What role did they play for the propagation of Deen ??
(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Your Question: Who were Tabee Tab`een ?? What role did they play for the propagation of Deen ??
Tabe-Tabeen is a term used for the generation of believers, who, while in the state of belief, saw and met someone of the generation of the Tabeen, which is the name of the generation who, in the state in belief, saw and met someone of the generation of the Sahabah (the noble companions of the Messenger of Allah (saws).
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 3.819 Narrated by Zahdam bin Mudrab
I heard Imran bin Husain saying, "The Prophet (saws) said, 'The best people are those living in my generation (The Sahaabahs) , then those coming after them (The Tabeen), and then those coming after (The Tabe-Tabeen).' "
Sahaabah is the Islamic term used for the generation of believers, who while in the state of belief, saw the Messenger of Allah (saws) themselves.
Tabeen is the term used for the generation of believers, who while in the state of belief, did not see the Messenger of Allah (saws), but saw the Sahaabahs or noble companions of the Messenger of Allah (saws).
And Tabe-Tabeen is the term used for the generation of believers, who while in the state of belief, did not see the Sahaabahs, but saw the Tabeen.
During the generation of the Tabeen and TabeTabeen, Islam was the dominant religion and culture in the major part of the then known world; and among the Tabe Tabeen were some of the best Scholars of Jurisprudence, Islamic Administrators, Judges, Teachers, Memorizers and Reciters of the Glorious Quran, Memorizers and Collectors of ahaadiths, etc. the history of Islam has ever seen. They were instrumental in spreading Islam to every known corner of the then known world.
