Maria was the prophets(saws) wife.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

This question is in regards to your question 1193, about Prophet(pbuh) wives. I have read in an email sent from our local mosque that prophet(phuh) had 12 wives and then I compared the names of that to your answer and I noticed that maariya bint shamoun, the egyptian christian, is missing from your list. Why this discrepancy? Is Maariya not considered among Prophet`s(pbuh) wives? Please clarify so we don`t spread wrong information among others. Thanks so much. Jazakallah khair.

Answer:

Maria was the prophet’s(saws) wife

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question:…..Why this discrepancy? Is Maariya not considered among Prophet`s(pbuh) wives? Please clarify so we don`t spread wrong information among others.

The scholars, jurists and historians of Islam are almost unanimous in their opinion that the Messenger of Allah (saws) had a total of 11 wives and 2 slave girls.

They do not consider Hadrat Maryia Kibtiya (r.a.) and Hadrat Rehana (r.a.) as the wives of the Prophet (saws), but as slave girls which his right hand possessed. And Allah Alone Knows Best.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
