Answer:

Who and what are the ashara mubashireen ten

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

May Allah Subhanah reward you with the best of this world and the Hereafter for your kind comments of encouragement for our humble efforts in the propagation of the Truth. If our humble and modest efforts have helped even one brother or sister get closer to Allah and His Deen of Truth, then we would consider ourselves indeed fortunate to have been given this opportunity by the Lord Most Merciful to serve in His Cause. We hope, beg, and pray the Merciful Lord accepts our humble and weak efforts, forgives us our shortcomings, and saves you, us, and all the believers from the torment of the Hell Fire. Ameen.

Your Question: I would like to know the meaning of "Asharatul Mubashsharaa",and who were they?

The literal meaning of the Arabic term ‘Ashara’ means ‘ten’; and ‘Mubashshara’ means ‘good news’ or ‘glad tidings’. This particular term ‘Ashara Mubashshareen’ is dedicated in Islam to the ten noble companions of the Last and Final Messenger of Allah (saws) who were guaranteed Paradise by the Messenger of Allah (saws) during their lifetime.

Those fortunate companions of the Prophet (saws) are:

1.       Hadrat Abu Bakr As-Siddique (r.a.)

2.       Hadrat Umar ibn Al-Khattab (r.a.)

3.       Hadrat Uthman ibn Affan (r.a.)

4.       Hadrat Ali ibn Abi Talib (r.a.)

5.       Hadrat Talhah ibn Ubaydullah (r.a.)

6.       Hadrat Zubayr ibn Awwan (r.a.)

7.       Hadrat Saad ibn Abi Waqqas (r.a.)

8.       Hadrat Abu Ubaydah ibn Jarrah (r.a.)

9.       Hadrat Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Awf (r.a.)

10.   Hadrat Said ibn Zayd (r.a.)

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4632 Narrated by Sa'id ibn Zayd

Sa'id ibn Zayd said: ‘I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) say: ‘Ten persons will go to Paradise: The Prophet (saws) will go to Paradise, Abu Bakr (r.a.a) will go to Paradise, Umar (r.a.) will go to Paradise, Uthman (r.a.a) will go to Paradise, Ali (r.a.) will go to Paradise, Talhah (r.a.) will go to Paradise: Az-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (r.a.) will go to paradise, Saad ibn Abi Waqqas (r.a.) will go to Paradise, Abu Ubaydah ibn Jarrah (r.a.), and Abdur Rahman ibn Awf (r.a.) will go to Paradise. If you wish, I can mention the tenth.’ The people asked: ‘Who is he?’ but he kept silence. They again asked: ‘Who is he?’ He replied: ‘He is Sa'id ibn Zayd (r.a.).’”

Your Question: ….and how did they come under this title?

According to authentic records the Messenger of Allah (saws) had in excess of 10,000 companions; but such was the services and sacrifices of the above quoted noble companions in the Cause of Allah and His Deen, that Allah Subhanah informed the Messenger of Allah (saws), and in turn the Prophet (saws) informed these particular companions in their own lifetime that they are guaranteed Paradise by their Lord in the Hereafter. With time these noble companions came to be recognized as being amongst the ‘Ashara Mubashereen’ or ten who had received glad tidings of Paradise by the Messenger of Allah (saws) during their lifetime.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
