Watch sunrise sunset nails.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Brother Burhan,

It is said that

1.) one should not see the moon on the 3rd night of the Islamic month, but that it is okay to see it on the 2nd night, the 4th night, and the other nights.

2.) People also say that one should not see the setting sun, but that it is okay to see the rising sun?

3.) Or, about not getting an hair cut on Wednesday or not cutting nails on Saturday.

Could you please tell me if there are any Quran ayats, authentic hadiths from the Prophet (SAW), or his close companions, which prohibit such activity?

Also, if there are such injunctions, and one observes the moon, for example, by mistake, what if any specific prayers should one make to ask for forgiveness from Allah Taala?

Also, as sins and rewards are a matter of ones intentions, if I just see the setting sun or the rising sun (or, moon), as something that is beautiful natural scenery created by our Lord and Creator, and worship only the Lord who created the sun and moon and everything, and nothing else, is there anything wrong in that?

I appreciate your answers at your convenience.

Thanks and with best regards.

Answer:

Watch sunrise sunset nails

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Q-1) ….one should not see the moon on the 3rd night of the Islamic month, but that it is okay to see it on the 2nd night, the 4th night, and the other nights.

We absolutely assure you brother that there is nothing in the Quran or the authentic and established Sunnah which even remotely implies that the believers are prohibited or discouraged to see the moon on the 3rd night or any other night of a month! One is at absolutely liberty to watch the moon whenever one wills and pleases.

Q-2) …..People also say that one should not see the setting sun, but that it is okay to see the rising sun?

There is absolutely nothing in the Glorious Quran or the authentic and established Sunnah which prohibits or discourages the believers from seeing the setting or the rising sun.

Q-3) Or, about not getting an hair cut on Wednesday or not cutting nails on Saturday.

Except when one is in the actual state of ‘ehraam’ for pilgrimage where it is forbidden for the ‘muhrim’ to cut their hair or clip their nails, the believers are at absolute liberty to cut their hair or their nails whichever time of the day or night, and whichever day or night of the week they will and please or is convenient for them.

Any person who invents such restrictions upon the believers which are not specifically endorsed by Allah and His Messenger (saws) should be asked to provide the proof for their prohibitions from the Glorious Quran and the Sunnah…..and if they are unable to provide the evidence for their self-invented restrictions, and we absolutely assure you that there are none, then one should know with absolute conviction that such self-invented restrictions are a figment of their imagination and have absolutely nothing to do with the Truth and Islam.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 16 Surah Nahl verses 116-117:

116 But say not for any false thing that your tongues may put forth "This is lawful and this is forbidden" so as to ascribe false things to Allah. For those who ascribe false things to Allah will never prosper.

117 (In such falsehood) might be but a paltry profit; but they will have a most Grievous Penalty!

Only Allah and His Messenger (saws) have the exclusive right to declare what is ‘halaal’ (lawful) and what is ‘haraam’ (prohibited) to the believers……Those who have invented such restrictions have done so without any right or authority from Allah Subhanah or His Messenger (saws) and are guilty of the heinous crime of inventing a falsehood and attributing it to Allah and His Messenger (saws)!!!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 61 Surah Saff verse 7:

7 Who doth greater wrong than one who invents falsehood against Allah even as he is being invited to Islam? And Allah guides not those who do wrong.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf verse 37:

37 Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or rejects his Signs?

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 29 Surah Ankabut verse 68:

68 And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah or rejects the Truth when it reaches Him? Is there not a home in Hell for those who reject faith?

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 4.667 Narrated by Abdullah bin Amr

The Prophet (saws) said ‘Whoever tells a lie on me intentionally, will surely take his place in the (Hell) Fire."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.109 Narrated by Salama

I heard the Prophet (saws) saying, "Whoever (intentionally) ascribes to me what I have not said then (surely) let him occupy his seat in Hell-fire."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.217 Narrated by Abu Huraira

The Prophet (saws) said, "Whoever intentionally ascribes something to me falsely, he will surely take his place in the (Hell) Fire.”

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
