Do good and evil deeds scale.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Sir,

I am a 23 year old Muslim. By my heart and faith YES according to myself I am a Muslim. I Only believe in Allah Alone and have NEVER Associated anyone with them or against him or replacing him in anyway.

I have read the Quran twice now with English translation. Allah keeps saying in the Holy Quran that he is very "Rahman" to his "Believers" And Allah has promised the Gardens in Paradise under which rivers flow to all his believers...

Allah has said in some Surah which I can't recall but I have read it for sure "And those who Believe in Allah and who do rightous deeds will be rewarded with the Gardens in Paradise."

And somewhere in the Quran (Not sure which Surah) but also read "And those who believe their evil deeds will be turned to good deeds" (Please quote me the right Surah if I am wrong)

and I also read somewhere in the Quran "That our deeds will be measured or weighed...and whosoever has more good deeds will enter the Gardens of Paradise and whose Evils deeds weigh more than the good ones will be entered into the hell fire"

But recently I read in Surah Al Furqan 25.68

"And those who do not call Allah any other God, and does not kill the life of which Allah has made sacred, except for honest cause, and do not commit adultery, and any of those who does this shall ge tthe penality

25.69 and even the penality on the day of judgement will be doubled to him and he will live in there with dishonor

My whole point of quoting these lines is because I am confused and SCARED!

I believe in Allah, I have faith in Allah, I believe in the day of judgement, and I wouldn't fit myself with the unbelievers who worship other Gods besides Allah (The true people of the hell fire)

However I do not pray 5 times, I do have sex with my boyfriend. But I do give out money to the poor people every month from my Salary Slip, and I love my parents and have helped other Muslim friends.

Now a person like me...I know you don't have the answer for this, but Will people like me will be going to Heaven or hell?

Because in one verse Allah says he will make our bad deeds turn into good deeds (only if we're his believer and do righteous things)

And in another verse that 'Our deeds will be weighed upon a Scale machine"

And recently while reading the Quran that

"And those who do not call Allah any other God, and does not kill the life of which Allah has made sacred, except for honest cause, and do not commit adultery, and any of those who does this shall ge tthe penality

25.69 and even the penality on the day of judgement will be doubled to him and he will live in there with dishonor"

So I Love Allah, believe in Allah, Fear from Hell, love my parents, give money to poor, read Quran almost everyday, but I don't pray 5 times and I also have sex with my boyfriend"

How am I being measured through all of these verses from the Quran? In my case are my good deeds turning into bad deeds according to the last Ayah I quoted off? Or are my deeds being measured? Or My bad deeds are turning into good ones because I'm a believer???

I'm really confused and may Allah forgive me if my confusion and asking this question is a sin...

And my last question is

"What does the Holy Quran say about those people who actually BELIEVE in Allah fully however they still drink Alcohol and have sex? But they pay their charity and also do other good deeds...?
What does Allah say about such people?

I know you will say if we're TRUE believer we actually won't drink or have sex before marriage...Only the unbeliever or hypocrites will! But some of us believe and still drink and have sex...what do you think will happen to us?

IT is very hard to stay away from such acts...either way if a person doesn't have sex, he will masturbate and I'm sure every Muslim out there who is single masturbates cos we all need an orgasm once a while...this sin indeed is a sin (because every Muslim man and woman must subdue their eyes and guard their private parts) however thats what we are...Humans....so imperfect and wrong...thats what makes us humane, right? but at least we try to do other good actions, like give charity, respect our elders, etc...what do you think about people like us according to the Holy Quran?

I hope you can respond soon...

Thank you,

Answer:

Do good and evil deeds scale

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Statement: ….I have read the Quran twice now with English translation. Allah keeps saying in the Holy Quran that he is very "Rahman" to his "Believers"

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 15 Surah Hijr verses 49-50:

49 (O Prophet (saws) Tell My servants that I am indeed the The Oft-Forgiving, The Most Merciful;

50 And that My Penalty will be indeed the Most Grievous Penalty.

Respected sister in Islam, without an iota of a doubt, the Lord Creator is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful, Most Gracious…..but those who constantly involve themselves in sin, and transgress the prescribed Boundaries of the Lord Most Majestic without fear or remorse, irrespective of whether they claim to be believers or disbelievers, they should know with absolute conviction that the punishment and penalty of the Lord Most Supreme is most grievous, most humiliating!

Your Statement: ….And Allah has promised the Gardens in Paradise under which rivers flow to all his believers...

Respective sister in Islam, it would be highly optimistic and indeed an utter fallacy if one believes that every person who claims to be a ‘beleiver’ will be rewarded with the Gardens of Paradise in the Realms of the Herafter!

If one declares belief, it is absolutely imperative that one fulfill (at least) all the obligatory deeds required of those who have declared belief in accordance with the Message revealed by the Lord….in letter and in spirit….if indeed one holds any hope to attain the promised rewards of the Lord in the Hereafter.

If one simply declares belief, but refuses to fulfill the required obligations that are attached to belief….such belief would be no more than a mere declaration in the Sight of Allah Subhanah….if He Wills He may take them to account; and if He Wills He may turn towards them in Mercy.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 18 Surah Kahf verses 103-106:

Tell them (O Prophet (saws)), “Should We tell you who are the most unsuccessful people and miserable failures in regard to their deeds? They are those, all whose edeavours in the worldly life, had gone astray from the Right Way, but all along they were under the delusion that everything they were doing was rightly directed! Those are the people who rejected the Revelations of their Lord and did not believe that they would ever go before Him. Therefore all their deeds were lost, for We shall assign no weight to them on the Day of Reserruction. Their recompense is Hell for the disbelief they showed, and for the mockery they adopted in regard to My Aayahs and My Messengers!”

Paradise is not reserved for ‘all’ those who claim to be believers….but rather it will be awarded by the Lord All-Knowing All-Wise to those whom He considers and determines to have been a ‘true believer’….those who not only fulfilled the rights of belief, but strove to do righteous good deeds in accordance with the guidance of the Quran and the Sunnah.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 32 Surah Sajdah verse 19:

19 For those who believe and do righteous deeds are Gardens as hospitable homes for their (good) deeds.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 42 Surah Shura verse 22:

22 Thou wilt see the wrongdoers in fear on account of what they have earned and (the burden of) that must (necessarily) fall on them. But those who believe and work righteous deeds will be in the luxuriant meads of the Gardens: they shall have before their Lord all that they wish for: that will indeed be the magnificent Bounty (of Allah).

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 31 Surah Luqmaan verses 8-9:

8 For those who believe and work righteous deeds there will be Gardens of Bliss.

9 To dwell therein. The promise of Allah is True: and He is Exalted in Power, Wise.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 47 Surah Muhammad verse 12:

12 Verily Allah will admit those who believe and do righteous deeds to Gardens beneath which rivers flow; while those who reject Allah will enjoy (this world) and eat as cattle eat; and the Fire will be their abode.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah Hajj verse 56:

56 On that Day the Dominion will be that of Allah: He will judge between them: so those who believe and work righteous deeds will be in Gardens of Delight.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah Mumin verse 40:

40 He that works evil will not be requited but by the like thereof: and he that works a righteous deed whether man or woman and is a believer such will enter the Garden (of Bliss): therein will they have abundance without measure.

Your Statement: …..Because in one verse Allah says he will make our bad deeds turn into good deeds (only if we're his believer and do righteous things)

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 25 Surah Furqaan verses 63-71:

The (true) servants of the Merciful are those who walk humbly on the earth. When the ignorant people behave insolently towards them, they say, “Peace to you”; (And those) who pass their nights in prostrating themselves and standing before their Lord and pray, “O our Lord, save us from the torment of Hell, for its torment is killing! It is an evil abode, and an evil resting place”. (And those) who, when they spend are neither extravagant, nor miserly, but keep the golden mean between the two extremes. (And those) who do not invoke any god but Allah Alone, nor kill a soul unjustly, which Allah has forbidden, nor commit adultery… He who does this shall be punished for his sin, and his torment shall be doubled on the Day of Resurrection, and he shall abide in a state of ignominy; EXCEPT THE ONE WHO MAY HAVE REPENTED (AFTER THOSE SINS), AND HAVE BELIEVED AND DONE RIGHTEOUS DEEDS. For then, Allah will change his evil deeds into good deeds, and He is very Forgiving and Merciful. In fact, one who repents and does righteous deeds, returns to Allah as one rightly should!

Respected sister in Islam, it is not that all the evil deeds which a believer might have done will be turned into good deeds in one’s ‘Book of Records’ with Allah…..but in light of the above quoted Aayah, only those believers who turn in ‘taubah’ unto their Lord and seek His sincere forgiveness at the commission of their sin, subsequently amend their conduct and strive to do righteous good deeds thereafter….it is only for such sincerely repentant believers for whom the Lord Most Gracious has Promised that He will change their evil deeds into good deeds in their ‘Book of Records’ with Him!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imraan verse 135-136:

Allah likes such good people very much, who, if ever they commit a base deed or wrong their own soul by the commission of a sin, remember Allah instantly, and ask for forgiveness from Him for their shortcomings. For who, but Allah, can forgive sins? (And Allah loves those) who do not knowingly persist in the wrongs they did. These will be rewarded with forgiveness from Allah, and with Gardens beneath which canals flow, and they will reside therein forever! How excellent is the reward of those who do good deeds!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verse 54:

When those come to you who believe in Our Signs, say: "Peace be on you! Your Lord had inscribed for Himself (the rule of) Mercy. Verily if any of you did evil in ignorance, and thereafter repented and amended (his conduct), Lo! He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2357 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "He who repents of a sin is like him who has committed no sin."

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2338 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "Allah accepts a servant's repentance (taubah) till he gives up his spirit in death."

Your Question: …..And in another verse that 'Our deeds will be weighed upon a Scale machine"

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 21 Surah Anbiyaa verse 47:

47 We shall set up the ‘Scales of Justice’ for the Day of Judgment so that not a (single) soul will be dealt with unjustly in the least! And if there be (no more than) the weight of a mustard seed (good or evil) We will bring it (to account): and enough are We to take account!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 101 Surah Al-Qariah verses 6-11:

6 Then he whose balance (of good deeds) will be (found) heavy

7 Will be in a life of good pleasure and satisfaction.

8 But he whose balance (of good deeds) will be (found) light

9 Will have his home in a (bottomless) pit.

10 And what will explain to thee what this is?

11 (It is) a Fire, blazing fiercely!

Every good and every evil will be assigned a ‘weight’ by the Lord Most Just on the Day of Judgment…..and all of one’s deeds, good or evil, which one did in one’s life will be placed in that Supreme ‘Scale of Justice’ in the Presence of their Lord. He whose balance of good deeds is found heavier will, by the Mercy of their Lord, be granted Paradise; and he whose balance of evil is found heavier will face The Unbearable Wrath and Anger and The Punishment of their Lord.

Your Question: …..So I Love Allah, believe in Allah, Fear from Hell, love my parents, give money to poor, read Quran almost everyday, but I don't pray 5 times and I also have sex with my boyfriend"

How am I being measured through all of these verses from the Quran? In my case are my good deeds turning into bad deeds according to the last Ayah I quoted off? Or are my deeds being measured? Or My bad deeds are turning into good ones because I'm a believer???

I'm really confused

Love Allah: good deed

Believe in Allah: good deed

Fear Allah: good deed

Love parents: good deed

Give charity for the Sake of Allah: good deed

Recite Quran: good deed

Negligent in obligatory prayers or duties: evil deed

Unlawful sexual intercourse: evil deed.

Your Questions:………How am I being measured through all of these verses from the Quran? In my case are my good deeds turning into bad deeds according to the last Ayah I quoted off? Or are my deeds being measured? Or My bad deeds are turning into good ones because I'm a believer???

If one has been negligent in fulfilling their obligatory duties or prayers unto their Lord, and/or has committed the abomination of unlawful sexual intercourse, etc…..and were such a person to die in a state whereby he did not turn unto his Lord in ‘taubah’ and seek sincere forgiveness for his sins and amend his conduct…..it would be safe to assume that each of these evil deeds will be assigned an appropriate ‘weight’ and placed in their ‘Scale of Justice’. If their balance of good is heavier than their balance of evil, they will be granted Paradise; and if their balance of evil is heavier than their good, they shall face the Wrath of their Lord.

But if one who believes in Allah, loves and fears Him, loves and serves one’s parents, gives regular charity, recites the Glorious Quran, etc. but also has committed majot sins like negligence in obligatory duties and/or unlawful sexual intercourse, etc….and before that person has tasted the element of death, he turns unto his Lord in ‘taubah’, seeks sincere forgiveness for his transgressions, subsequently amends his conduct and does righteous good deeds…..then it is expected that their Lord will turn unto them in Mercy, and their Lord Most Gracious will not only obliterate those evil deeds from their ‘Book of Records’ with Him, but He will change their evil deeds into good deeds.

‘Belief’ alone does not change one’s evil deeds into good deeds, but it is sincere ‘taubah’, and repentance, and the subsequent amending of one’s conduct, and the doing of righteous deeds thereafter through which the Lord in His Sublime and Infinite Mercy changes the evil deeds of the beleiver into good deeds.

Your Question: ….."What does the Holy Quran say about those people who actually BELIEVE in Allah fully however they still drink Alcohol and have sex? But they pay their charity and also do other good deeds...?

What does Allah say about such people?

If one is a sincere believer, but also happens to commit major sins (intoxication, gambling, unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.)….if the person turns unto his Lord in ‘taubah’ before he has tasted the element of death, seeks sincere forgiveness for his manifest transgressions, and subsequently amends his conduct….it is expected that he will find his Lord Forgiving and Merciful.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah Zumur verses 53-54:

(O Prophet) say: “O My servants who have wronged their own souls….Do not despair of Allah’s Mercy! Surely, Allah forgives all sins. He indeed is the All Forgiving, All Merciful. Return to your Lord and submit to Him before the scourge (death) overtakes you; for then you may get no help from anywhere.”

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2338 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "Allah accepts a servant's repentance (taubah) till he gives up his spirit in death."

If one was not involved in the unforgivable sins of shirk (or disbelief or hypocrisy), and were to die in the state of sincere belief….. but one did not seek forgiveness for their major sins before they tasted the element of death, then their case rests with Allah Subhanah Alone; if the Lord Wills He may forgive him his sins, and if the Lord Wills, He may take full account and retribution for those major sins.

Allah says in the Quran: Chapter 4 Surah An-Nisa Verse 48

Shirk (associating other deities with Allah) is the only sin that Allah does not forgive, and He forgives, whomsoever He pleases, sins other than this. For whosoever associates any other partner with Allah, does indeed forge a big lie and commits the most heinous sin.

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
