Answer:

Is it permissible to ask questions

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Under normal and personal circumstances, if one knows that a loved one has done something evil in their past which they are trying to hide, or one knows that the person would be uncomfortable or embarrassed talking about that subject, or one has prior knowledge that the person for whatever reason would be unable to answer their question…..then it would only befit the character of a believer who sincerely fears Allah and the Last Day that they refrain and abstain from embarrassing their brother or their loved one, or intentionally placing them in an uncomfortable situation.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 3.622 Narrated by Abdullah bin Umar

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs (in this world and the Hereafter); whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened the evil of a Muslim brother, Allah will screen for him his evil on the Day of Resurrection."

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
