Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalam Alaikum…

Hope you are doing well, May Allah give you the best in life for your kind help towards all other Muslims. I wanted to know that how long we can keep the precious water (Abe Zam Zam) does it will get some bacteria when kept for long and can we keep Zam Zam in refrigerator or do we have to drink the water as soon as possible. I would appreciate if you answer my question as I have almost 5 liter of Zam Zam in my fridge.

Answer:

How long can one keep zam zam

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Respected sister in Islam, without an iota of a doubt, the water from ‘Zam Zam’ is holy and one amongst the Signs of Allah Subhanah……but it is still water nonetheless, and every ailment or bacteria which effects normal water would have its effect on holy water from the well of ‘Zam Zam’.

One is at liberty to keep or store the ‘Zam Zam’ water as long as one wills, but if one fears it has decayed, then it would be best to abstain from consuming it and discard it accordingly.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
