Wild animals with canine teeth.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear brother burhan,

ive heard a hadith .....According to various authentic Ahadith narrated in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim including hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas in Sahih Muslim, Book of hunting and slaughter, Hadith No. 4752 and Sunan Ibn-I-Majah chapter 13 Hadith no. 3232 to 3234, the Holy Prophet (pbuh) prohibited the eating of:

1. Wild animals with canine teeth, i.e. meat eating carnivorous animals. These are animals belonging to the cat families such as lion, tiger, cats, dogs, wolfs, hyenas, etc.

2. Certain rodents like mice, rats, rabbits with claws, etc.

3.Certain reptiles like snakes, alligators, etc.

4. Birds of prey with talons or claws, like vultures, eagle, crows, owl, etc.

so ive have still seen many muslim brothers consuming the flesh of PEACOCK which is a bird of prey and has talons and claws .... what would u comment on this ....

Answer:

Halal haram food peacock

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 4752 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas

Allah's Messenger (saws) prohibited the eating of all fanged beasts of prey, and all the birds having talons.

Although all birds have claws, but unlike eagles, crows, vultures, etc. a peacock (or a chicken, or duck, etc.) is neither a ‘bird of prey’ nor does it hunt its food with its ‘talons’ or ‘claws specific to the birds of prey’…. thus provided it is duly slaughtered, the flesh of the peacock would be considered absolutely lawful for the believers to consume as food.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
