Answer:

Meaning of verse

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: It will be highly appreciated if you could advise me the short Tafseer of The Surah Muminun Verse # 29. This particular line known the Dua of Hazrat Mussa AWS.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 23 Surah Munimoon verses 28-29:

28 And when thou (Prophet Nuh (a.s.)) hast embarked on the Ark, thou and those with thee, say: "Praise be to Allah Who has saved us from the people who do wrong."

29 And say: "O my Lord! Enable me to disembark with Thy blessing: for Thou art the Best to enable (us) to disembark."

Firstly brother, this particular dua and supplication is attributed to the Noble Pophet of Allah Nuh (a.s.), and his noble companions who embarked with him in the Ark and not the Noble Prophet Musa (a.s.).

Your Question: I am interested to know the back ground of the Dua

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 11 Surah Hud verses 36-44:

36 It was revealed to Nuh: "None of thy people will believe except those who have believed already! So grieve no longer over their (evil) deeds.

37 But construct an Ark under Our Eyes and Our Inspiration, and address Me no (further) on behalf of those who are in sin: for they are about to be overwhelmed (in the Flood)."

38 Forthwith he (Nuh (a.s.)) starts constructing the Ark: every time that the chiefs of his people passed by him they threw ridicule on him. He (Nuh (a.s.)) said: "If ye ridicule us now we (in our turn) can look down on you with ridicule likewise!

39 But soon will ye know who it is on whom will descend a Penalty that will cover them with shame, will be unloosed a Penalty lasting."

40 At length, behold! There came Our Command and the fountains of the earth gushed forth! We said: "Embark therein of each kind two, male and female, and your family except those against whom the Word has already gone forth, and the believers." But only a few believed with him.

41 So he (Nuh (a.s.)) said: "Embark ye on the Ark in the Name of Allah whether it move or be at rest! For my Lord is be sure Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful!"

42 So the Ark floated with them on the waves (towering) like mountains and Noah called out to his son who had separated himself (from the rest): "O my son! Embark with us and be not with the disbelievers!"

43 The son replied: "I will be take myself to some mountain: it will save me from the water." Nuh said: "This day nothing can save from the Command of Allah any but those on whom He hath mercy!" and the waves came between them, and the son was among those overwhelmed in the Flood.

44 When the Word went forth: "O earth! Swallow up thy water, and O sky! withhold (thy rain)!" and the water abated and the matter was ended. The Ark rested on Mount Judi and the Word went forth: "Away with those who do wrong!"

For 950 years the Noble Prophet Nuh (a.s.) invited his people to fear Allah and abstain from associating other deities with the Lord Most Majestic, but they rejected, and furthermore, ridiculed and mocked his invitation and his sincere warnings. At long last, the Noble Prophet Nuh (a.s.) complained thus to his Lord Most Supreme:

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 71 Surah Nuh verses 1-1221-28:

1 We sent Nuh to his people (with the Command): "Do thou warn thy people before there comes to them a Grievous Penalty."

2 He said: "O my people! I am to you a warner, clear and open:

3 That ye should worship Allah, fear Him, and obey me:

4 So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated term: for when the term given by Allah is accomplished it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew."

5 He (Nuh (a.s.)) said: "O my Lord! I have called to my people night and day:

6 But my call only increases (their) flight (from the Straight Path)."

7 And every time I have called to them that Thou might forgive them, they have (only) thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, grown obstinate, and given themselves up to arrogance!

8 So I have called to them aloud;

9 Further I have spoken to them in public, and secretly in private

10 Saying `Ask forgiveness from your Lord; for He is Oft-Forgiving;

11 `He will send rain to you in abundance;

12 Give you increase in wealth and sons; and bestow on you Gardens and bestow on you Rivers (of flowing water).

21 Nuh said: "O my Lord! They have disobeyed me, but they follow (men) whose wealth and children give them no increase but only loss.

22 And they have devised a tremendous plot.

23 And they have said (to each other): abandon not your deities; abandon neither Wadd, nor Suwa, neither Yaguth, nor Yauq, nor Nasr;

24 They have already misled many; and grant Thou no increase to the wrongdoers but in straying!

25 Because of their sins they were drowned (in the flood) and were made to enter the Fire: and they found in lieu of Allah none to help them.

26 And Nuh said: "O my Lord! Leave not of the disbelievers a single one on earth!

27 For if Thou does leave (any of) them, they will but mislead Thy devotees and they will breed none but wicked ungrateful ones!

28 O my Lord! Forgive me, my parents, all who enter my house in Faith, and (all) believing men and believing women: and to the wrongdoers grant Thou no increase but in perdition!"

In response to the sincere supplications of His Noble slave-servant and Prophet Nuh (a.s.), Allah Subhanah Commanded Hadrat Nuh (a.s.) to build an Ark, and to embark on the Ark with the believers at the Command of the Lord. Then the Lord Most Majestic Most Supreme engulfed all the disbelievers in the ensuing flood and none amongst the disbelievers survived on earth!

This is the background of the supplication taught by the Lord unto His noble slave-servant and Prophet, Nuh (a.s.), and the believers with him in the Ark:

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 23 Surah Munimoon verses 28-29:

28 And when thou (Prophet Nuh (a.s.)) hast embarked on the Ark, thou and those with thee, say: "Praise be to Allah Who has saved us from the people who do wrong."

29 And say: "O my Lord! Enable me to disembark with Thy blessing: for Thou art the Best to enable (us) to disembark."

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allahs Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
