Where to wear ehram.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Sir,

I am working in a company, we have offices in Riyadh, Jeddah, Madina etc.

I am working in Riyadh and is planning to go for Hajj this year. But before that I have some work in Jeddah and will go Jeddah first, about 4 days before Hajj and then for Hajj. So in this case from where I should wear Ehram. I need your help.

Answer:

Where to wear ehram

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The dedicated ‘Meeqat’ or place where one is required to enter into the ‘ehraam’ for pilgrimage for those coming from the area of Riyadh is ‘Taif’. Because the location of the ‘meeqat’ of Taif is before Jeddah when coming from Riyadh, if you leave your residence in Riyadh with the intention to perform the pilgrimage, then it would be obligatory upon you to enter into the state of ‘ehram’ at ‘Taif’, then proceed to Jeddah to attend to your work (obviously in the state of ‘ehram’), and then proceed to Makkah to fulfill the rites of pilgrimage.

But if one has absolutely no intention of performing the pilgrimage, leaves their residence in Riyadh to do some work in Jeddah, and when in Jeddah happens to make intention to perform the pilgrimage….then there is allowance in Shariah for such a person to enter into the state of ‘ehram’ for pilgrimage from Jeddah itself without going back to the ‘meeqat’ of Taif.

But since you have already made intention to perform pilgrimage from Riyadh, it would be necessary for you to enter in the state of ‘ehram’ from Taif.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
