Temporary secret marriage

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalam Aleikum Warahmatullah Burhan. I would like to know the concept of secret marriage in Islam and also the concept of abortion. Are they allowed, if so under what circumstances. Thank you for your assistance and guidance. May Allah (SW) reward you at all times inshallah

Answer:

Temporary secret marriage

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His  forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The killing of an unborn child or abortion is absolutely prohibited in Islam, and it is considered a grave and major sin.

There is absolutely no concept of a ‘secret marriage’ in Islam. Islam guides the believers to marry with at-least two witnesses, and guides them to announce their marriage publicly by having a marriage feast of ‘walima’, so that the society may recognize the couple as a husband and wife in marriage.

If by secret marriage, you mean temporary marriage or ‘mutah’; the Messenger of Allah (saws) declared ‘mutah’ absolutely haraam in Islam.

Narrated by Hadrat Ali bin Abi Talib (r.a.): On the day of Khaibar, the Messenger of Allah (saws) forbade the Mut'a (i.e. temporary marriage) and the eating of donkey-meat.

Narrated by Saburah ibn Ma'bad al-Juhani: The Messenger of Allah (saws) prohibited temporary marriage with women.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
