this question:
As
salaam Alaikum Bhai,
I
would like to know while weighing the GOLD to calculate ZAKAT, the DIAMOND
jewellery which are embedded on to gold should be considered all together in
weight, or GOLD seperate and DIAMOND separate, kindly comment??? Furthermore
when we have a shop and its is given on rental, please advise the ZAKAT
will be on the total value of the SHOP or on the INCOME which is coming thru
this shop. Looking forward to hear from you soon.

Answer:
Zakah on gold and
stones diamonds
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His
help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide,
and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear
witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 1558 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As
A woman came to the Messenger of Allah (saws)
and she was accompanied by her daughter who wore two heavy gold bangles in her
hands. He (saws) said to her: ‘Do you pay zakat on them?’ She said: ‘No.’ He (saws)
then said: ‘Are you pleased that Allah may put two bangles of fire on your
hands?’ Thereupon she took them off and placed them before the Prophet (saws)
saying: ‘They are for Allah and His Messenger (saws) (to distribute to the poor
as they will).’
You need to determine the value of your jewelry, including
both the value of the gold and the value of the precious stones, and pay its
annual zakah at the rate of 2.50%. It is
only obvious that the value of precious stones cannot be determined by weight
like it is in gold….thus the value has to be determined separately and the
zakah paid on the combined value annually at the rate of 2.50%.

The rental income of the property is absolutely immaterial
when determining the zakah of the property; one would be liable to pay the
annual zakah on the market value of the property at the rate of 2.50%.
