Reciting Quran from Floor.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

A person is reading Quran while sitting on the floor and the other person is sitting on a Sofa (i.e at a higher place), so is it necessary that the person sitting on the higher place should get down or the person who is reading Quran should sit on the higher place. Is it wrong to sit on a higher place when somebody is reading Quran on the floor.

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

Reciting Quran from Floor

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The Glorious Quran are the Very Words of the Lord Most Majestic Who Created; and they will always be held in Honor regardless if they are recited from the bottom or the depth of the earth, or from the skies above!

There is absolutely no condition, obligation, or restriction in Shariah that the one reciting the Glorious Quran should be seated above everyone else; or that it is forbidden or discouraged to sit on a level higher then the person reciting the Quran.

What is indeed of paramount importance and significance in Islam is that the Commands Guidance and the Laws which are declared by the Lord Most Majestic in His Glorious Quran are held in honor, and unconditionally obeyed and followed above and before every other command, guidance and laws made by any in creation….for that then would be akin to piety and righteousness in the Sight of Allah Subhanah.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
