Is there an significance for a Muslim Guy to wear a ring or multiple rings in his fingers?

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Asalaam O Alaikum, Brother you and your crew are doing a remarkable work in the path of Islam, My all wishes and prays are with you all. Please do answer all of my questions , as for your easiness I have numbered them. I have some clarifications to make (1) Is there an significance ( as from Hadith/Sunnah of the Messenger Prophet SAW) for a Muslim Guy to wear a ring or multiple rings in his fingers? (2) Does the ring has to have a stone in it too? (3) How do I find out what stone suits me? According to English calender the stone I should use is Emerald, is it right to use it? (4) Since I heared the stones used on the rings can have great influence on ones behavior, is that correct? Please tell me why is it so complicated as I just wanted a ring for myself? Thankyou. Allah Hafiz.

Answer:

Rings and stones

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

May Allah Subhanah reward you with the best of this world and the Hereafter for your kind comments of encouragement for our humble efforts in the propagation of the Truth. If our humble and modest efforts have helped even one brother or sister get closer to Allah and His Deen of Truth, then we would consider ourselves indeed fortunate to have been given this opportunity by the Lord Most Merciful to serve in His Cause. We hope, beg, and pray the Merciful Lord accepts our humble and weak efforts, forgives us our shortcomings, and saves you, us, and all the believers from the torment of the Hell Fire. Ameen.

Q-1: Is there an significance ( as from Hadith/Sunnah of the Messenger Prophet SAW) for a Muslim Guy to wear a ring or multiple rings in his fingers?

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 9.276 Narrated by Anas bin Malik

When the Prophet (saws) intended to write to the Byzantines, the people said, "They do not read a letter unless it is sealed (stamped)." Therefore the Prophet (saws) took a silver ring--as if I am looking at its glitter now--and its engraving was: "Muhammad, Messenger of Allah."

It is indeed a fact that the Messenger of Allah (saws) wore a silver ring, but that was only when he had established an Islamic State in Madinah, and the ring was used as a seal during his correspondence with the leaders of other tribes. There is absolutely no evidence that the Messenger of Allah (saws) wore the ring or any other form of jewelry prior to his becoming the leader of the Islamic State in Madinah.

Adornment and aids of beauty (like make-up, jewelry, chains, bangles, ear-rings, etc.) are a characteristic specific to the womenfolk, and it absolutely does not behove a believer who sincerely believes in Allah and the Last Day to adorn himself with something that enhances the beauty of women!

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 7.774 Narrated by Ibn Abbas

The Prophet invoked the curse of Allah on the effeminate men (those men who imitate or assume the manners or characteristics of women) and those women who assume the manners (and characteristics) of men.

Q-2: Does the ring has to have a stone in it too?

It would be best and closest to piety and righteousness if the believers left the wearing of jewelry as adornments of beauty for their womenfolk.

Q-3: How do I find out what stone suits me? According to English calender the stone I should use is Emerald, is it right to use it?

Q-4: Since I heared the stones used on the rings can have great influence on ones behavior, is that correct? Please tell me why is it so complicated as I just wanted a ring for myself?

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imran verses160:

If Allah helps you, none can overcome you! And if Allah forsakes you, who is there, then, after Allah that can help you? Therefore, the true believers should trust in Allah Alone.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah Yunus verses 106-107:

And do not call besides Allah, any being that can neither do you any good nor any harm. For if you will do so, you shall be one of the doers of wrong. If Allah afflicts you with a calamity, there is none to remove it, but He Himself. Likewise, if Allah wills to bestow a favor on you, there is none to withhold Allah’s bounty. He bestows His bounty on anyone of His servants He wills. And He is The Forgiving, The Merciful.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verse 17:

17 If Allah touch thee with affliction none can remove it but He; if He touch thee with happiness He hath power over all things.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 35 Surah Fatir verse 2:

2 What Allah out of His Mercy doth bestow on mankind, there is none who can withhold: what He doth withhold, there is none can grant apart from Him: and He is the Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom.

Dear and beloved brother in Islam, everything, absolutely everything that takes place in the Universe happens with the precise Will and Permission of Allah Subhanah Alone, for He Alone is the Owner of All Strength and All Power.

Allah is our witness brother, no stone, no stars, no lines in one palms, no nothing except Allah Subhanah our Lord has the Power to bring about any good or harm on its own!

To believe that some stones (or anything else in creation) can bring about any good to someone in the ‘unseen’, or to believe some stones (or anything else) can save one from any harm, or some stones (or anything else) have the power by themselves to influence absolutely anything in one’s lives or one’s behavior, etc….is a manifest act of disbelief and ‘shirk’! Nothing, absolutely nothing in the Universe has the Power or the Strength or the Ability to bring about any good or harm upon anyone in the ‘unseen’ except the Lord Most Majestic, Most Supreme Alone; thus the believers who sincerely fear Allah and the Last Day should keep their full trust and belief in Him and Him Alone.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 133 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: “Don't you know what your Lord said? Your Lord observed: ‘I (Allah) have never endowed My bondsmen with a favor, but a section amongst them disbelieved it, and said: stars, it was due to the stars!’”

Your Question: Please tell me why is it so complicated as I just wanted a ring for myself?

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4224 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

The Prophet (saws) said: ‘If anyone wants to put a ring of fire on one he loves, let him put a gold ring on him: if anyone wants to put a necklace of fire on one he loves, let him put a gold necklace on him, and if anyone wants to put a bracelet of fire on one he loves let him put a gold bracelet on him. Keep to silver and amuse yourselves with it!’

Although it is not recommended or encouraged in Islam for the believers to wear any jewelry only as an adornment of beauty, if one sincerely wishes or desires to wear a ring for any reason, it should be made of silver.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
