Imam Hasan had married 68 times?

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalaam alaikum,

I recently heard from a friend of mine claiming that Imam Hasan had married 68 times? Is this true? If so then what were the circumstances?

She also claims that the Imam who we say is in parda is infact of a greater position than the prophet(p.b.u.t)!! I donot believe this to be true and wantto prove her point wrong. Allah Subhan-Allah has chosen His Messengers, not Imams.

Answer:

Hasan married many times

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: I recently heard from a friend of mine claiming that Imam Hasan had married 68 times? Is this true? If so then what were the circumstances?

Although the exact number of times the noble grand-son of the Prophet (saws), Hadrat Hassan ibn Ali (r.a.) married is not in our knowledge, it is indeed recorded in history that Hadrat Hassan (r.a.) married many times during his lifetime, but in accordance with the laws of Shariah, at any one time he (r.a.) did not have more than four wives.

Your Question: If so then what were the circumstances?

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 6158 Narrated by Anas ibn Malik

When Allah's Messenger (saws) was asked which member of his family was dearest to him, he (saws) replied, "Al-Hasan and al-Husayn (the sons of Ali)." He (saws) used to say to Fatimah, "Call my two sons to me," and then would cuddle them.

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 6156 Narrated by Usamah ibn Zayd

Allah’s Messenger (saws) would say of Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn (sons of Ali): "These are my sons and my daughter's sons. O Allah, I love them, so I beseech Thee to love them and those who love them."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 5.92 Narrated by Al Bara

I saw the Prophet carrying Al-Hasan ibn Ali on his shoulder and saying, "O Allah! I love him, so please love him."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.32 Narrated by Usama bin Zaid

Allah's Messenger (saws) used to put me on (one of) his thighs and put Al-Hasan bin 'Ali on his other thigh, and then embrace us and say, "O Allah! Please be Merciful to them, as I am merciful to them."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 7.772 Narrated by Abu Huraira

I was with Allah's Messenger (saws) in one of the Markets of Medina. He left (the market) and so did I. Then he (saws) asked thrice, "Where is the small (child)?" Then he (saws) said, "Call Al-Hasan bin 'Ali." The Prophet (saws) stretched his hand out like this, and Al-Hasan did the same. The Prophet (saws) embraced him and said, "0 Allah! I love him, so please love him and love those who love him." Since Allah's Messenger (saws) said that, nothing has been dearer to me than Al-Hasan.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.23 Narrated by Ibn Abi Nam

I heard Abdullah ibn Umar saying that he heard the Prophet (saws) saying, "They (Hasan and Husain) are my two sweet-smelling flowers in this world."

The Messenger of Allah (saws) so loved and adored his noble grandson Hadrat Hasan ibn Ali (r.a.), that time and again he (saws) would invoke the blessings of Allah upon him, shower his love and mercy upon him, and declared the good news that Hadrat Hasan and Hadrat Hussain the sons of Ali would be the leaders of the youth in Paradise!

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 6154 Narrated by Abu Sa'id

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "Al-Hasan and al-Husayn (the sons of Ali) will be the chief ones among the youths who go to Paradise."

Such was the physical resemblance and gait of Hadrat Hasan ibn Ali (r.a.) that some amongst the noble companions would say that anytime they wished or desired to look at the Prophet (saws) after his death, they would look at Hadrat Hasan ibn Ali (r.a.)!

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 6161 Narrated by Ali ibn AbuTalib

Al-Hasan bin Ali resembled Allah's Messenger (saws).

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 4879 Narrated by Abu Juhayfah

I saw Allah's Messenger (saws) as a fair-skinned man who had become grey-haired. Al-Hasan ibn Ali resembled him.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 5.95 Narrated by Anas

None resembled the Prophet (saws) more than Al-Hasan bin 'Ali did.

Because of the noble lineage of Hadrat Hasan ibn Ali (r.a.), and his noble character, and his piety and righteousness, and his resemblance to the Prophet (saws), etc…..many amongst the believing women wished and desired that they get married to this noblest of men in Madinah! This could be amongst the reasons why Hadrat Hasan (r.a.) chose to marry many times in his lifetime; and Allah Alone Knows Best the exact conditions and situations and the reasons and intentions behind his several marriages.

Your Statement: She also claims that the Imam who we say is in parda is infact of a greater position than the prophet(p.b.u.t)!! I donot believe this to be true and wantto prove her point wrong. Allah Subhan-Allah has chosen His Messengers, not Imams.

The only men amongst mankind who have a right to come to mankind and declare that they are the chosen and appointed ‘Imaams’ or leaders, are the Noble Prophets and Messengers of Allah Subhanah. No people, no imam, no leader, no ruler, etc…..absolutely no one amongst creation, other than the Noble Prophets have a right to declare that they have been appointed their title or rank directly from Allah Subhanah; if any other in creation other than the appointed and chosen Prophets of Allah claim or declare their title or rank to be from Allah Subhanah, or their followers claim that the rank or title of their leader has been directly chosen and appointed by the Lord Most High, know with absolute conviction that their claim and declaration is absolutely baseless and a blatant and manifest lie and falsehood.

It is absolutely absurd for a believer who sincerely believes in Allah and the Last Day to even assume, leave alone adhere to the belief that a self-chosen or self-appointed rank of ‘Imam’ of one can be greater than the rank of any Prophet of Allah, leave alone the Leader of the Prophets, the Last and Final Messenger of Allah, Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws)!!! If one claims or believes that the rank of any of their self-appointed Imams is greater than that of the Last and Final Messenger (saws), they would be guilty of their blasphemy and blatant falsehood they utter in the Court of Allah Subhanah!

It is indeed a pity and the height of ignorance for one who accepts the Glorious Quran as the Very Words of Allah, and believes in the appointment of Prophet Mohamed (saws) as the Last and Final Messenger of Allah to assume that one amongst creation and a follower of Prophet Mohamed (saws) himself can assume a rank greater than the Noble Prophet Mohamed (saws)!!! May Allah have mercy and guide our ignorant brethren who utter such falsehood and blasphemy to the Straight Path of Islam.

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
