One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Confusion about mixed marriages between Muslims and non-Muslims.

Salam aleikum

I know of one woman a few years ago who married a non-muslim man. He did eventually

become Muslim through her. Do you know if she would

get reward or sin for this?

Answer:

Muslim marry non-Muslim man

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 221:

221 Do not marry unbelieving women (idolaters) until they believe; a slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman even though she allure you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe: a man slave who believes is better than un unbeliever even though he allure you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the fire. But Allah beckons by His grace to the Garden (of Bliss) and forgiveness and makes His Signs clear to mankind: that they may celebrate His praise.

It is absolutely illegal, unlawful and haraam in Islam for a believing woman to marry a disbeliever. Such a marriage between a believing woman and a disbelieving man will be considered absolutely unlawful, illegal, null and void in the Sight of Shariah Law and of Allah Subhanah. The relationship between the believing woman and the disbelieving man will be unlawful and the children (if any) resulting from the relationship will be deemed illegal and born out of wedlock.

If the man has subsequently accepted Islam and the believing woman wishes to continue her relationship with this brother, it is absolutely imperative that a brand new ‘Nikaah’ between the revert brother and the believing sister be performed for them to be recognized as a married couple in the Sight of Shariah Law and of Allah Subhanah.

For her total disregard and open transgression of the Laws of Allah Subhanah, the believing woman who previously entered into an unlawful relationship with a disbeliever, must turn back to her Lord in sincere repentance and seek forgiveness for her deeds; it is expected she will find her Lord Forgiving and Merciful.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.1 Narrated by Umar bin Al Khattab

I heard Allah's Messenger (saws) saying, "The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions, and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended.”

Allah Subhanah Alone is aware of the precise intentions of the woman and the exact role she played in the brother accepting Islam, and it is upto Allah Subhanah Alone whether to reward or punish His slaves.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
