Question No.2297: Believe in all previous scriptures

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

You contradict yourself in your reply. First you mention that one has to believe in all Books sent earlier and the next line your interpretation says, the book at that time was meant for people of that time.

You dumb, get your facts straight first.

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

Believe in all previous scriptures

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Statement: You dumb, get your facts straight first.

Beloved and respected brother in Islam, we sincerely apologize for our shortcomings to you and in all humility seek forgiveness from the Merciful Lord for not being able to completely explain the wisdom behind the Wise Words and Guidance of the All Knowing.

Beloved brother, if our explanation led you to believe in even an iota of contradiction in the clear Aayahs of the Glorious Quran; the error and shortcoming is entirely in our explanations, not in the Glorious Aayahs of the Perfect and Noble Quran.

As your brothers in Islam, we ask for your understanding and a chance to allow us to again present the Divine facts as Declared and Decreed by the All Knowing, All Wise Lord of the Worlds.

Fact 1:

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisaa verse 136-138:

136 O ye who believe! Believe in Allah, and his Messenger (Mohamed (saws)), and the Scripture (Al-Quran) which He hath sent to His Messenger, and the Scriptures which He sent to those before (Mohamed (saws)). And who denieth Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Day of Judgment; hath gone far far astray.

137 Those who believe, then reject faith, then believe (again), and (again) reject faith, and go on increasing in unbelief; Allah will not forgive them nor guide them on the way.

138 To the hypocrites give the glad tidings that there is for them (but) a grievous penalty.

Fact: In the above Aayah, Allah Subhanah commands the believers to believe in the Quran, AND in all the Scriptures which He sent before it.

Fact 2:

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verses 2-6:

2 This (Quran) is the Book; in it is guidance sure without doubt to those who fear Allah.

3 Who believe in the Unseen, are steadfast in prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them.

4 And who believe in the Revelation (Quran) sent to thee (O Mohamed (saws)), and (in the Revelations) sent before thy time; and (in their hearts) have the assurance of the Hereafter.

5 They are on (true) guidance from their Lord and it is these who will prosper.

6 As to those who reject Faith, it is the same to them whether thou warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe.

7 Allah hath set a seal on their hearts, and on their hearing, and on their eyes is a veil; great is the penalty they (incur).

Fact: In the above Aayah, Allah Subhanah states that the ones who are on true guidance from their Lord are those who believe in the Quran AND also in all the Revelations before it.

Fact 3:

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imraan verses 84-86:

84 Say (O Believers): "We believe in Allah, and in what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma`il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in (Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the Prophets from their Lord; we make no distinction between one and another among them, and to Allah do we bow our will (in Islam)."

85 If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good).

Fact: In the above Aayah, Allah Subhanah tells the believers to declare that they believe in the Quran AND declare that they believe in all the Revelations to Prophets before Mohamed (saws).

Fact 4:

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 285:

285 The Messenger (Mohamed (saws)) believeth in what hath been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the believers. Each one (of them) believeth in Allah, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers, (and they say): "We make no distinction between one and another of His Messengers." And they say: "We hear and we obey; (we seek) Thy forgiveness O Our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all journeys."

Fact: In the above Aayah, Allah Subhanah declares that Prophet Mohamed (saws) and the believers believe in the Quran AND all His Books, and make no distinction between the Messengers of Allah Subhanah!

Thus, my beloved brother in Islam, the facts declared by the All-Wise Lord in the Glorious Quran are as straight as the Siraat al-Mustaqeem!

A believer is not a believer unless he believes in the Prophet Mohamed (saws) and the Quran, AND in each and every one of the Messengers and the Revelations revealed before!

I guess the confusion might be in whether the muslims today are commanded to follow the Scriptures of the past Prophets in its available form today, or to follow only the Scripture that was revealed to the Last Messenger of Allah, Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws)?

Allah says in Chapter 2, Surah Baqarah aayat 185:"Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was sent down: this Book is a Perfect Guidance for mankind and consists of CLEAR Teachings which show the Right Way and are a Criterion of the Truth and falsehood."

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 16 Surah Nahl verse 89:We have sent down to you this Book, which makes everything plain, and is a guidance, blessing and good news to those who have surrendered themselves entirely.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 43 Surah Zukhruf verses 43-44:So, hold fast to the Book that has been revealed to you, you are surely on the Siraat al Mustaqeem. The fact is that this book is a great honor for you and your people, and soon you shall be CALLED TO ACCOUNT for it.

Although we are commanded by the Lord Most Merciful to believe in all the Books He has revealed, we are commanded by the same Lord to now follow only the Last and Final Testament in the form of the Glorious Quran which He revealed to His Last and Final Messenger, Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws). The Quran IS the Perfect Guidance from the Lord; the Quran is the Book that shows the Right Way; and the Quran is the Criterion between the Truth and the falsehood.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verse 157-158:Now that a clear proof, a Guidance and Blessing (Al-Quran), has come to you from your Lord, who can be more unjust than the one who treats Our Revelations as false and turns away from them? We will inflict the severest torment on those who turn away from Our Revelations because of their aversion. Do the people now await that the angels should come down before them? Or that your Lord may Himself come down? Or that the manifest Signs of your Lord should appear?

Of all the Revelations of Allah Subhanah, it is only the Glorious Quran which is available in the exact original verbatim form as it was revealed to the Last Messenger of Allah (saws); all the other Revelations have been corrupted by man through time. Indeed, a believer is not a believer until he believes in all the Revelations of Allah Subhanah, but he is commanded by the same All Knowing, All Wise Lord to follow only the Last and Final Book which is a complete and collective manual for the perfect guidance of mankind until the end of time.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
