Bleeding during pregnancy

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

as-salaamualaykum

I recently found out that I was pregnant, but unfortunatly it turned out to be a ectopic pregnancy and it had to be removed. However my question is for about a week while I was pregnant I was bleeding - and I still carried on praying namaz should I have done this?. I understand from my Doctor that some women do bleed during their pregnancy and this is quite normal.

I hope you can answer my question as I have been told conflicting information.

Thank you.

Answer:

Bleeding during pregnancy

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: while I was pregnant I was bleeding - and I still carried on praying namaz should I have done this?

The scholars in Islam are unanimous in their opinion that a woman does have menses during her pregnancy. It is indeed true that some woman do bleed during their pregnancy, but this bleeding cannot be considered the same as when in menses.

Thus if you cleansed yourself, and protected yourself from the bleeding with a covering whereby the blood would not touch your clothes; you have done the right thing by continuing your prayers during your pregnancy, even though you were bleeding. May Allah Subhanah accept your worship and give you a generous reward for your obedience to Him.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
