Islamic verification of this statement- whatever happens; happens for the best

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

 Assalam Alaikum

I have heard from many people that whatever happens, happens for the best. As far as my reading of the Quran and Hadith are concerned I have not come across any verse that says that whatever good or bad happens in our lives is always for the best. I know that Allah tests and punishes people but I have not yet learnt that even if a tragedy, crime, torture, sorrow or accident happens is for the best or betterment. I do know we should be thankful to Allah in all situations and we do try our best to do so however people saying, it must have happened for the best, might actually be a lie they are inventing since Allah know and we as people have very little, rather no knowledge at all about any reasoning.

When we accept that it might be a test or punishment we would become more obedient and thankful to Allah however if we think everything happens for the best then I don’t know what the next consequent step would be – people might relax and think everything will happen for their best.

Kindly enlighten me on this; I will keep researching myself too.

Jazak Allahu Khair

Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Whatever happens in this universe, happens with the express will and permission of Allah swt.. For us Muslims, it does not behove to believe that whatever happens, good or bad, happens for the best. If you analyze deeply you will find that whatever happens is Allah swt qadr. We are commanded to do whatever we have to do and leave the rest in His capable hands. This is because most things that happen are really not in our control anyways.

The good and the bad happenings are our test to see whether we are thankful and grateful to our Lord in all circumstances. There is hikmah (wisdom) in everything that happens. We might not comprehend it at that time but in hindsight one will understand its true consequence and results. History is a witness to that.

Only a believer will truly understand that whatever happens, happens for the best. Those rebels and non-believers who challenge common sense and say that we should relax since whatever happens will be for the best, are ignorant and will never understand its logic. A believer in Allah swt and the Last Day, goes about his job normally and accepts the results after exerting his level best content with the knowledge that whatever happens will happen for his best as the final results are not in his power to steer.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
