Would it be reasonable for a Muslim male to take Misaaq so that they can get married to a Bohra, even though if they believe that Bohra beliefs are a form of shirk and prohibited in Islam, and Dr Burhanuddin Shah is no more than an average humanbeing?

Meethak to marry

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His  forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol,  no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

A person,  who is a believer in Allah and the Last Day,  is not required to take a ‘meethak’ or oath of allegiance to marry another believer.   Islam has even allowed the believing man to marry a Jew or a Christian woman,  and not even she is required to change her faith,  or take the ‘meethak’ or oath of allegience to Islam!    This system in some sects of taking ‘meethak’ every now and again from the believers is an innovation,  and as with any innovation,  it must be immediately rejected.

It has been reported by Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib (r.a.) that the Prophet of Allah (saws) said: “If anyone introduces an innovation (in religion),  he will be responsible for it.   If anyone introduces an innovation or gives shelter to a man who introduces an innovation (in religion),  he is cursed by Allah,  by His angels,  and by all the people.”

It has been reported by Jabir ibn Abdullah (r.a.) in another authentic narration that the Prophet of Allah (saws) said in a sermon:  “The best speech is that which is embodied in the Book of Allah, the Al Quran;  and the best guidance is the guidance given by me, Mohamed (saws).   The most evil affairs are the innovations,  and every innovation is an error.”

‘Shirk’ is the one sin that Allah has promised in the Holy Quran that He will not forgive.   Thus it is the duty and responsibility of every individual to stay far away from this heinous crime.   Dr. Mohamed Burhanudeen is indeed a normal human being,  and anyone who associates him or anyone else with the attributes that belong to Allah Alone,  is involved in manifest ‘shirk’;  and must immediately beg Allah’s forgiveness and align his life according to the guidance of Allah and His Messenger (saws).

Allah says in the Quran: Chapter 4 Surah An-Nisa Verse 48:Shirk (associating other deities with Allah) is the only sin that Allah does not forgive, and He forgives, whomsoever He pleases, sins other than this.  For whosoever associates any other partner with Allah, does indeed forge a big lie and commits the most heinous sin

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 72:Whoever commits ‘shirk’ (invoking anything with Allah),  Allah shall forbid for him Paradise,  and Hell shall be his abode.  And for such wrong doers there will be no one to help.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,
